Is he any good in the kitchen @Liriodendron? Prepping the veg and whipping up the Yorkshire batter is on my to do list for this morning, while I catch up with the Archers ... a bit of escapism. 😊

That’s another suggestion I’ll put to the dog’s owner, Liri.  Thanks for the idea.

  • Morning all,  dry cold start here.  Planning to do the birdwatch today as they were all hiding in the rain yesterday.
It's worth noting that it seems to be the younger ones that get bad side effects from the AZ vaccine.  Second born & her team (all NHS) all had quite bad flu like symptoms for up to 2 days.

Good morning Forkers.  Grey and dull but mild and dry here so far but we'll get wet later.   More hibernating then as it's too slippery and heavy to do anything in the garden.  I shall be putting up curtain poles for the new curtains in our shower room.  Might be tricky as the clever electrician has looped a cable over the corner of one of the windows.....

Dunno about anyone else but this January has felt very long and slow and cold and dark and wet and I shall be glad to see the back of it.

Hello all, Quite agree @Obelixx I can add miserable to that list. Blowing a hoolie and raining down here as seems to be the norm at the moment but I see better weather is forecast in a couple of days. I do hope that February will be better for all of us in more ways than just the weather.
I think I must look at plant porn today, I guess by July I shall be moaning about how dry the ground is!   B)

He can boil a kettle, @Dovefromabove... can't get him to cook anything, though he'll help with preparing veg etc.  Oh, opening tins... he's good at that.   ;)  But I think he'd be better with a project on the go, so maybe we can get some more painting done.   :)

  • Morning all / afternoon @Pat E -- I was going to suggest velcro as well  ( other brand hook and loop fastenings available ) . Not recently as not done much sewing over last year but I have previously seen that iron on velcro fastenings are available too ( ie even if you use a sew on one , if it needs replacing a year on your daughter's friend can probably do that herself vs being solely reliant on someone that is a competent with a needle)

@Allotment Boy thank you for that info re AZ vaccine  , and @Obelixx agree re Jan weather and sentiment!

I take a large, soluble paracetamol just before leaving home to go and get the annual flu jab and any other jab I need, otherwise I'm guaranteed to get a sore arm at the very least.

I must check what veg seeds I've got and order some more .... and it seems that OH and I are both hankering after a Monstera for the sitting room ... and I have some birthday money ...

Hear hear - good riddance to January.  Apart from the snow last weekend - that was fun 😀⛄️😀

Hard frost here this morning.  Had been planning to do some planting out, but will wait til tomorrow when its meant to warm up, and stay that way for a few days.  I have a new Choisya, some hellebores grown from plugs a few years ago that are now flowering beautifully, and a load of bulbs that I threw into pots in the autumn when I couldn't see where they needed to be planted (combination of autumn foliage and builders detritus).

So I need to dream up some alternative plans for today ..... I think it might involve a walk in the mud 🥾🥾🥾
