    Hello all.

I've been reading all your posts on my phone but just haven't had time to respond.

We had a really good weekend. Daughter 1 and family arrived on Saturday, earlier than expected. I was running late and in the middle of making a huge fish pie which I cooked in the wood burning stove and they whopped it down. The boys were delighted with the stream along the side of the paddock. I own half the stream. They built a damn and saw some fish, quite big ones. In the afternoon daughter helped me unpack and clean the two guest rooms. She made the beds as my wrist was painful. I showed everything to her and her French OH, then, just as it was getting dark, he realised the boys were still outside. He went to find them and they were still playing by the river, absolutely soaked, very cheerful and not noticing the cold. They are 10,12 and 15.

On Sunday Son 2, his French wife (5th baby due in June) and their 3 little boys and little girl, 21 months, arrived for lunch. I cooked roast chicken and potatoes in the electric oven and 2 casserole dishes of the vegetable stew that Rick Stein made on TV the other day, which I cooked in the wood burning stove. Son 2 brought 2 big frangipane tarts for pud. We went for a walk and the children played by the river again, but daughter and family had to leave mid afternoon because of the 6pm curfew.

They all liked my new house, said it's pretty with character but they said it isn't an easy house for old people (I don't feel like an old person!) and I need to put in a loo in the storage area between the sitting room and dining room for when we are older. The current downstairs loo is down 5 steps. The last house had steps all over the place, OH was finding it difficult with his hip, much easier here. But they said it does suit me, they couldn't see me in a modern house.

How encouraging that your children think your new house suits you, @Busy-Lizzie.  It sounds as if you've had a lovely weekend - and that stream is definitely a bonus for the grandchildren.   :)

The whole house smells of marmalade.  15 jars should keep us going for a bit... now where am I going to put them??

Sounds a really lovely weekend @Busy-Lizzie, although a bit hectic with so many children. I don't think I could cope. Your new house sounds intruiging with a stream and paddock. Another loo on the level might be a good idea in due course.
We all seem to have had busy productive days - isn't it a good feeling.

Obelixx, Hubby said he uses 4 eggs in his lemon drizzle cake. If you want the recipe, I can put it up for you. It’s very tasty.😜

We woke to the sound of heavy machinery on our road this morning. There’s a big orange grader, a water truck and a roller all moving back and forth. The road hadn’t been done for a couple years so that’s good. The council must have pulled their socks up at last.

Hubby reported a large hole in the road several weeks ago that filled with water whenever there was a bit of rain.(yes, I know it’s not often, but makes the hole bigger). Besides we have some neighbours whose sons (18-25 yo) who delight in doing crazy burnouts after rain and it undoes any repair work. 😡

You all sound very productive at the moment. It must feel good to be able to get outside and do things. We’ve nearly finished cutting up the second tree out the back. Just some tidying up to do. At least it’s off the fence.

    Good morning all 😊 ☕️ and hello @Pat E ... great pics 👍
Weve got a frosty start to the day and there’s still some patches of snow on the ground ... Ma would have said that it was hanging about for more ...
When I woke I heard a plane climbing in the sky ... it must have taken off from Norwich International, but it was noticeable’cos the skies have been quite empty of late

  • Morning @Pat E .... super pics and looks like a lot of hard work done! ...hi @Dovefromabove ..... just started my coffee so half an hour behind you!-- feel very cold today , not sure why. Perhaps its just winter fatigue.

@Biglad...( hello, not sure I've said hello before ) ...but inspired by your GNR training I've re-engaged with couch to 5k (!) so with a bit of luck I'll be 5k-fit by the end of March.

Hi Dove. I’ve had a molar removed this afternoon and I’m in a lot of pain. 😡 I’m waiting for the time to pass so that I can have some more Panadol. I hope I’ll be able to get some relief at bed time.

  • Oh dear @Pat E.... I feel your pain... I have something similar coming up in early Feb ( been cancelled once already for covid) ...but hopefully its only the next few hours or so that you have to deal with before it is a lot better.
