Moring all, I couldn't actually sleep, went to bed at 11, rolled around, still rolling around at 3.30, got up for loo, debated staying up,wanted to strip bed put on washing, (economy 7) but the old man was still in it.According to last nights' forcast I was waking up to lots of ice, frost, and sun, nah, that was yesterday!! Was soooh, pleasd to see Monty, Nigel, and the gang, and the videos, what an inspiration the lady with the shorter arms was' so sunny
Morning, late here too, no particular reason. Freezing fog here, ice that I turned out of the bird bath yesterday is still on the lawn. Well done @Busy-Lizzie an exciting new chapter for you both.
Morning. I’ve done the shopping and had brunch, and am now considering a snooze. I can’t believe how many people are doing Dry-January. My friend is a nurse, is isolating, has a toddler, is on a diet AND not having alcohol. Superpowers!
You will be busy this weekend @Busy-Lizzie - cheers to your new home and many happy years there.
Cold here ❄️🥶. The snow from the other day now has a layer of frost, circles of ice from birds water here too. OH just described the grass as like walking on a loaf of freshly made bread, I’ve never tried that so wouldn’t know, he can be so poetic at times😀
Same as Dove, the nights seem to have shifted into days, up later and later at night and same in the mornings. I rolled out at 9.30 this morning
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Bright sunshine again here but still freezing and we have a gusting wind. OH and I are taking Sally Zafira to the garage so they can start work on her new suspension bright and early Monday morning without our having to be up at the crack of dawn to get her there. Other than that it's a n indoor day today I think.
Getting a bit twitchy about wanting to weed beds so the bulbs are free to flower and show off but have to wait a week or so for better weather and thawed soil.
Good luck with all those boxes @Busy-Lizzie. I hope you'll be very happy in your new home. Shame about the house plants but at least they're replaceable.
We are not doing dry January but are back on the 5:2 diet which works for me and OH can have his smelly cheese if he gets hungry as he doesn't need to lose any more blubber - once he's shed his 2 Xmas mince pie and pud kilos. Plenty of exercise coming up in the garden once it thaws and we've always got walkies.
@D0rdogne_Damsel good luck with all your deprivations. Maybe you need to organise a Friday night takeaway event every week - keep you ticking over and in people's minds but maybe put a time limit for pre-orders on your publicity. Get the French trained!
Looks like @floralies and @Nollie are having interesting weather across the Pyrenees. Hope they're OK.
Have a safe day everyone.

Afties all/evening @Pat E Late on parade today. Been watching a Scandi thing on the t'interweb that seems to have vanished from the TV. Glad you're 'in' @Busy-Lizzie. I haven't moved for a wee while now. For a couple of years, I was doing it so often that I could have done it in my sleep! Always best to unpack as much as you can as soon as you can. It becomes a hideous chore if you don't IMO. Nice that your event went well @D0rdogne_Damsel. Keeps the wolf from the door @AuntyRach - are you taking bets on how long your friend lasts? My pile of bird bath ice shards is still there under the snow. Been there for two weeks. I gave up trying to defrost it and just put a little plastic tray of water out each day. That freezes up too, but at least I can tip out the block of ice and refill it. I think we have wind and rain coming later so that might shift some over the next couple of days. Not been above freezing here since early afternoon on Thursday. Got to minus 3 yesterday, and minus 9 again at night. Gritters have been good, but there's no salt/grit in the bin now so the side roads are a bit dodgy. The birds are enjoying the extra treats of cheese and sultanas. Even Dave had a look at those before turning up his beak and just waiting for second helpings of his usual.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Hello all, It's been snowing steadily all day, the birds are going mad at the feeders, the usual magpies and jays have been taking the food before the smaller birds get in on the ground feeders. One is left without a cage for them. So pleased you are in your house now @Busy-Lizzie and it is warm and cosy. We are getting through a plentiful supply of logs at the moment, and we have had five power cuts in the last twenty four hours, luckily not while I have been cooking! Must go and see which plants need the snow brushing off them.
Afternoon all! Still below freezing here after minus 6.8 last night - coldest weather here (by several degrees) for at least 20 years, according to the Internet. It's beautifully sunny and sparkly out, but I think it'll be too slippery for a safe walk. I've got a knitted teddy bear to sew up and stuff for our newest grandson, so that'll keep me out of mischief.
We have a pile of ice shards too, @Fairygirl, next to the big plant saucer which acts as a bird bath. Forecast is for warmer weather from tomorrow onwards so it ought to disappear soon. The birds have been getting supplementary feeding for the past week, on a tray which I remove at lunchtime before the baby rat emerges from the wall. Normally we just have hanging feeders for small birds, but the blackbirds were looking at me pleadingly...
Sorry to hear you had some casualties during the move, @Busy-Lizzie. It's almost inevitable... we "lost" a box of pictures somehow in our move to Ireland, which grieves me particularly as it included one painted for me by our daughter. No idea where it went. Anyway, it's good that you're installed and unpacking, so it'll soon feel properly like home.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
