So sorry about your BIL, @floralies.  Hope you get better news of him soon.  x

No worries, @Fairygirl - this H.quercifolia is a 1-year-old rooted cutting, said to be 6" tall, and only cost €8.  It'll be a year or two before it's big enough to put into the garden, but I've got lots of patience (just not a lot of dosh!)   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Those look lovely @Dovefromabove. When I lived in Holland, one of the local customs was to swallow a raw Herring, head first and to follow it down with a glass of Genever [ the Dutch gin ]

Oh @punkdoc that sounds very good. I love herring .., fresh herring are one of the things I’ve missed most this winter 😢

Yes, @Dovefromabove we're missing our regular trips to the fish market at Les Sables d'Olonne but, when I sorted out the freezers I did find hake, both tails and whole, sardines and mullet I'd bought when prices were good so we are not fish deprived and have enough to keep us going till it's safe to go to market again.   Pity Possum thinks she only likes salmon and prawns.

Evening. It’s been warmer today - a heady 7 degrees!

Sorry to hear of sad news and difficult times.

Umm... I think I would need rather a generous gin in order to swallow a herring 🤢

Take care folks. Keep positive and keep safe.

I can't drink neat gin, even to chase a herring.   Prefer those grilled anyway.  We do all know the Dutch are not gourmet eaters or cooks by any means?   Tho they do good cakes.
