Morning all/afties @Pat E if you're there. @Allotment Boy and @D0rdogne_Damsel - no cure for dumb is there? My sister has friends who have tested positive, but fingers crossed, we don't know of anyone hospitalised or worse. She has a friend in Fife whose family have acted like total clowns all through it. They were going to drive to Surrey at Christmas with some bogus reason. These are the people causing the problem. My sis knows of some people who were fined because they were stopped by police [going into a different area] and told to p*ss off back home. They ignored it and got caught on the way back. Good. @pansyface linked a funny thing for me to see the other day - basically a voiceover for our news reports from the First Minister, done by a Glasgow legend [Janey Godley] I think it should be used as the new slogan to try and get through to people. "the more you go out, the more you'll have to stay in". Back to wet and windy here. I'd much rather have snow and sub zero temps, but it's cheaper on the heating bill
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Good morning all ☕☕☕☕☕☕☕ Slept like a log ..... except for being woken by police search helicopter circling overhead ... it seems the 11 year old who pinched our milk has (quite understandably) been having ‘difficulties’ for a while and went AWOL last night ... parents were worried sick ... his mum has been in touch with me ... he was found this morning at a petrol station not far from here and is at home now thank goodness. Difficult times.
Meanwhile the police are having to spend time making sure adults are doing what they're told in order to save their own and their family's health and possibly their lives, and protect the NHS ... I'm beginning to think that some people need to be made an example of ... maybe show them what 'Lockdown' could mean ... 24 hours cooling their heels at HM's pleasure ... Grrr!!!
And the Sainsbugs delivery has arrived ... they have everything ordered ... it was picked at 5am this morning .... it seems that a morning delivery is the one to have to ensure the shelves are full for the pickers.

Morning all. Hello @Pat E - hope you're managing to stay cool.
Warm and wet here today - bit of a change, with leaden skies to replace all that lovely sun and frost. Pity... but the birds can get their beaks in the ground again, which must be a relief.
I'm afraid you're right, @D0rdogne_Damsel, and the grim reality of Covid is only just coming home to some people now they know of relatives or friends who have been seriously ill or have died. But there will still be those who are adamant that they know best, whatever "experts" say... I too have a "friend" who is convinced Covid is no worse than flu, and bends the rules whenever he can. And I exploded (not sure if it was here or on the Covid thread) before Christmas about our choir conductor, announcing that she was going to re-start choir imminently and didn't plan to wear a mask. I was the first, but not the only, person to email and say what I thought... she backed down in the end, for which I was profoundly thankful. Hubby and I wouldn't have gone to rehearsals, but there would have been a few people who would no doubt have been persuaded to do so.
I'm trying to get some plants mail order at the mo. Not that many mail order nurseries exist in Ireland, and the choice is fairly limited - but the one I had my eye on, which has been closed for orders for a month, opened briefly yesterday evening. I spent more than I intended... ...but did find a Hydrangea quercifolia 'Burgundy' which looks gorgeous. I think I can blame you, @Fairygirl , for singing the praises of H.querc... ...and I now have room for one. Plus, it's resistant to honey fungus.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Morning all, treacherous out there where the snow started to melt and then the temp went down to -6 deg last night. My other BIL had a fall at home in December and was taken to hospital, he has now caught Covid while in there, he is quite poorly now, and of course my sister can't visit him. I think I should now get off my backside and put some washing on and make a coffee. I have been watching two Wagtails fighting for food outside, why can't they just be nice to each other and share!
Good morning Forkers. Still cold here but it's clouding over and we may get above freezing this pm. Set to be warmer tomorrow tho damp and cloudy too.
Deep sympathy for everyone worrying about rellies and friends they can't get to see and support. I have to take Possum back to Belgium by the end of Jan and that's going to be a worry as she's the wrong age to get the vaccine soon and has no-one there to care for her if she does get ill.
I hope the unpacking's going well @Busy-Lizzie and the plans for a scullery go smoothly but, more importantly, I hope there's a good Leclerc nearby.
@D0rdogne_Damsel good luck with the exercise and dieting. Same for anyone else trying to keep or get fit.
@Liriodendron I too fancy an H quercifolia but haven't found one here yet. Waiting to see how my paniculatas get on now they're all planted out. We inherited 2 mop heads but they wouldn't be my choice and one is a muddy lilac and may get dug out.
@Fairygirl we've had the heating on all day for a week now and a fire in the evenings. Not used to such cold snaps any more.
Stay safe everyone. Hope you're OK and special hugs to people like @Hostafan1 who're feeling very low. You too @punkdoc with your SAD and other worries.

@floralies - you're having a really rubbish time. I hope your BIL gets good care. Dreadfully worrying. That's the problem when the temps drop after snow or ice melts a bit too. We often get that here because the snow is usually wetter rather than nice powdery stuff. It happened last week when, on the only night the temp wasn't below zero, we had sleet and snow, which just froze in sheets of ice. The roads were more suited to Torvill and Dean than cars. I took daughter to work rather than her going on her chuff walking for the bus. Is there any way you can keep her at home with you @Obelixx? It seems counter productive, doesn't it? Glad you got an oak leaf @Liriodendron. I love the autumn foliage. Sorry of I've made you spend lots of dosh though..... At least the wee lad is ok @Dovefromabove. I see you had some twats travelling to Norfolk yesterday to see seals. Idiots. What do they not get about travelling?

Are the Belgian universities re-opening then @Obelixx? No wonder you are worried about Possum being there, presumably you will both have to quarantine when you get there or doesn't it apply now. Hopefully she will still have some friends around to keep an eye on each other. Good luck with the unpacking @Busy-Lizzie, I do wish I had room here for a utility room, we've only got space for a small porch where the tumble dryer has to sit. I had a lovely big semi-basement room in the old house with enough space for my woodworking and furniture restoration bits and bobs as well as the domestic appliances. Oh well, moving house is always a matter of compromise. We've had our usual walk and most people are social distancing and/or wearing masks, as we do on the narrow bit near the shops. We're finding though it's mostly the younger women that don't seem to distance or mask up. No spatial awareness at all.
Morning all, A reasonable day here, no rain or snow, although it is windy. No outdoor activities planned but I am working out how I'm going to grow veggies this year for the first time. I've ordered a couple of raised beds and have lots of large pots so I'm looking at what to grow. I've also decided to get rid of the play house which is in a really sunny spot and is only used now to store seat cushions. I'm going to list it on a local website and use any money I get to help pay for top soil.
Hugs for those of you who have had sad news, there doesn't seem to be much good news around at the moment.
Hello everyone. I’m sorry about all the sad news some you have heard about. Your news has been bad. I tuned in to BBC world news today for a while.
I’ve been on the lounge all day. I couldn’t face the temperature outside. I think it was 34 or something like that. I weakened and put the air con on when it got too stuffy to bear. Tomorrow is predicted to be above that. We might have to drive to town (aircon in the car) and visit the air conditioned shops. I know I need to move, but I really hate the heat.
reading about some of the unbelievers you’ve written about reminded me of a story that Hubby repeated a couple of days ago. He bumped into one of our friends in town who told him it was just a bad cold and that people were being stupid. 😡😡😡. I wish I’d have been there. I’d have said a few words to him.
Anyway, as usual it’s after midnight, so I’m tuning out. Catch you all tomorrow. 😁
