Yes @punkdoc - tho it's possible to find really bad Indonesian food in Amsterdam and Utrecht in my experience and I bet the chefs are not Dutch.  Flavours and spicing nowhere near as subtle or enticing as decent Indian, Sri Lankan, Thai, Chinese, Korean cooking.

@Dovefromabove the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had was after eating Stoemp (Stampot) in Utrecht.   Never went looking for authentic Dutch food again.

It was -7° here this morning, sunny and very cold all  day. Car was covered in frost.

We had lovely smoked fish from Cley @Dovefromabove when we had lunch with a cousin who lives there.

We went to the Orange shop (France Telecom) this morning about the phone and Internet. It will take up to 2 weeks to get it all working. I was told that my mobile bill is a lot because of all my calls to the UK. When I bought the Smartphone and changed my subscription the man said the UK was included, but I have now been told it isn't because of b****y Brexit D

Man is coming tomorrow to set up the TV.

The kitchen is nearly unpacked, only 2 cutlery drawers, I need more drawers, kitchen cutlery, best cutlery, kitchen utensils, a drawer for chequebooks, stamps, address book etc, drawer for Sellotape, paperclips, pencil sharpener, rubber bands, batteries etc. and a drawer for clingfilm, baking paper, foil and freezer bags. I'll get a sideboard for the breakfast room, with some drawers and 3 cupboards, that should do it. My dresser at the old house was built in so I couldn't take it.

I think I'm glad to be in Dordogne at the moment, the Covid situation in the UK sounds bad. Sympathy to all of you who are affected by it.

    Love that one BusyL.😂😂

Punkdoc - Erk!  I came over all squishy after reading about the herring swallowing. Is it safe to assume that it’s a male thing?

we have a whole week ahead of 30s, so not sure about getting my exercise. At least in town I can walk up and down aisles in the supermarkets in air conditioned comfort.  Fingers crossed that we remain virus free in our district. I’ve got a mask in my handbag just in case.

My thoughts are with you all in UK and Europe. Keep safe all.

  • Morning all,

Another snowy trip to get Charlie to school. It's ok on our track, plenty of grip, ok once you actually get into town, but the 15 minutes in-between are a bit hairy, lots of undulating bits which are more of a controlled slide down rather than a drive. Anyway, I managed to get there and back without incident.

I have to visit my poorly friend in rehab later, he had a stroke just before Christmas, poor man is going to be there for at least another month I believe, still no feeling on his right side. Hopefully the roads will be better by then, the forecast looks warmer than of late anyway. We are lucky to be allowed to go, they are very organised, I go straight to his room, I don't have to go near the reception or anyone and he has a huge room, he sits by the bed and I sit by the window, both with our masks on. It's hard not being able to give him a hug but at least for an hour he has some company. It is a long day in there for him, mentally he is absolutely fine, but he is not strong enough to do too much rehab work yet so it stuck in his room for a lot of the day on his own.

Desperate to get out in the garden but it's either frozen or a muddy mess at the moment, roll on longer days and a bit of sunshine.

Looking for something interesting to do with white fish for dinner tonight now, no potatoes so no fish pie, my normal fall back position, probably something with rocket and green beans....

Hope you are all ok, I'll catch up later.

  • Morning all -- hope everyone well. Honestly ( I am so fickle) I'm not sure I didn't prefer the freeze to the deluge of rain we have ahead of us this week. @D0rdogne_Damsel...might not be your cup of tea, but I sometimes do a chimichurri type sauce ( subbing the parsley for coriander or a mix of both most of the time) with white grilled or baked fish with a warm tomato ,chickpea and rice salad on the side. ( By the way did have a small piece of salmon with chilli and ginger dressing last night so thank you for the inspiration!)
Kindness is always the right choice.
  • Morning @Desi_in_London, I have googled that and it looks very interesting, I also have all the ingredients I would need so I might just have a go at that. Glad you enjoyed the chilli and ginger salmon, it is one of my favourite new recipes so far.

    Morning all,

Looks a cracker outside today. I was beginning to think I needed to start building another Ark ;)

Morning all.  Raining here too, and we have puddles in new places in the garden - probably where the ground is still frozen a few cm down.  Forecast says it'll be drier this afternoon so I'll put off the essentials shopping trip until then.  It's only half a mile's walk to the shops so I feel guilty if the weather is so bad I have to take the car.

Commiserations, @Busy-Lizzie, over the phone bill.  We're just waiting to see what's going to happen with our mobile contracts with 3 UK.  Currently they are still telling me that Ireland is a "Go Roam" destination so calls, texts etc to UK are covered in the contract.  I'm afraid they may change their minds...

Hope the road conditions improve before you go out to visit your friend, @D0rdogne_Damsel.  I'm sure he'll be looking forward to your company  :)
