Gave up and came down and did some HWĀ I am going to get the final bit of accounts up to date today, a slow process as I have to scan all the receipts, some of them are 4 or 5 pages long, and then upload them for the accountant, time consuming and boring, but at least a chance to finally get up to date without new receipts coming in as fast as I upload.Ā
Someone is enquiring about a 'Takeaway' Birthday meal for 6 on Saturday evening - 200⬠budget, I've sent some ideas over - tricky with regard to keeping it all hot and transported looking nice, we'll see.Ā

I sometimes made a Pond Pud when we lived on the smallholding. Itās delicious and was a useful āfillerā after a Monday meal of cold roast meat, jacket potatoes and salad ... I could leave it all afternoon, steaming gently on the Rayburn and the potatoes baking in the oven, while I got on with the outdoor jobs or cheese making etc.
Ā It costs not a lot to make either and when we were working outside every day a few extra calories were soon worked off. Ā
But I think the ones on Bake Off were too small ... the pastry has to be thick enough to stand up when turned out, and if you do that with a small pud itās all pastry and little filling.Ā
Also they didnāt have long enough to steam them do the pastry was still flabby and almost raw ... Iād give even a small steamed suet pud 2 to 3 hours steaming.
Ā I think Paul Hollywood likes setting Heffalump Traps ... he thinks it makes him look clever ... it doesnāt šĀ

He saw Greg Wallace and Chris in Eat better for Less and they cooked chick pea and corn fritters. Weāve had them for dinner tonight, but Iām not sure Iāll encourage him to repeat the recipe. š

A sign of temps being higher? They look like they're setting up home across in the N. Trust garden. They make a terrible racket all the time.Ā A minor gripe in the grand scheme of things.Ā The point of Bake Off - surely, is to test people. Not just on their baking skills, but their adaptability, artistic flair, how they perform with a bit of pressure etc. It's also an entertainment show, so without a wee bit of time pressure, we wouldn't have the inevitable 'disasters'. All part of the show. I thought those jelly art things were superb. Hate jelly, but love watching them work out how they did it. Great fun.Ā Looks to be a decent day here thankfully, although the high winds/rain are coming back tonight. At least my newly planted tree is still standingĀ

Good morning everyone.Ā Hi @Pat EĀ The Sussex pond was a Prue Leith challenge and an old English classic so, like I said, a surprise that none of them knew what it was.Ā I don't ever want to eat Genoese sponge in anything but especially with mousse and jelly but it was interesting to watch the process.
Bright and sunny here and should be heading out for the weekly raid on the SM but have had a really bad night with the stupid knee throbbing so I shall need a few coffees to get going.
Just watching the lovely Patrick Grant on the Beeb going on about sustainable fashion and everyone learning to sew and mend and keep their clothes longer.Ā Too right.Ā Ā

Hi @Liriodendron.Ā Your namesake was planted a couple of weeks ago along with a few other trees and and has since been joined by some shrubs.Ā Ā Fingers crossed they all enjoy their new homes.Ā
I have been to the famous Pudding Club in Mickleton in the Cotswolds a couple of times and have a copy of their book "Great British Puddings". Their recipe for Sussex Pond pudding uses vegetable suet and says to steam for 3.5 hours or longer for a tender lemon. There are over 140 pudding recipes in their book for those with a hankering for true comfort foods.
