I have nothing of any 'financial value'. If the girls want to keep anything, they can do that. Things are just that - things.Ā They can chuck everything else as far as I'm concerned - it certainly won't be any use to me.Ā I kept a few small sentimental things of my parents' belongings. Photos are more important, and the memories.Ā I was thinking your insurance had organised the builders/roofers @Obelixx. Sometimes they insist on that, depending on what the situation is. Bl**dy useless when you can't get anyone to turn up though.Ā I've had a productive afternoon - clearing all the front path of moss and tidying right round the outside boundary. I even gave the front grass a trim as it had grown a bit. It was wet but it's never going to dry anyway now, so it wasn't a big deal. The Mahonia is looking lovely - covered in buds.Ā
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
The insurance is thru our bank @Fairygirl and they had no preferred contractors to offer.Ā Just said they're happy to go with someone we know for the clear up and making safe but wanted estimates for repairs/rebuild in case they thought them excessive in which case they'll send in their own "experts" to assess.
When I went to shut in the chooks, 2 were cosied up in one box, 2 more in their own box.Ā Nobody in the nesting boxes.Ā Ā The one who usually sleeps huddled on the far end of their perch is huddled on the far end of the poo shelf and the 6th is on the next to top rung on the ladder up to the perch.Ā Who knows where her poo will end up!Ā Ā
I also love to hear your chooks progress. Such a lovely thing to do, to give them a chance at a ānormalā life. šš
Iām happy this morning to read 8mm rain in the gauge. If it keeps up for a few days, the new driveway will settle down well. Itās rather good to have the rain in the night rather than through the day. šš
I had a laugh at the knitted hen coats, Dove. Canāt imagine them tying them on. Perhaps Obelixx will have a patchwork pattern for them. š
ok, breakfast over, so Iād better face the day and work out what I fancy doing.Ā
Morning all/afties @Pat E. Great that the rain's doing as it's toldĀ I agree- the hen stories are a lovely normality in this abnormal time. I love just watching the birds. There was a little bird singing his head off yesterday while I hung out the washing. Not a usual visitor - a little warbler of some kind, sitting up in the tree. He was oblivious to the virus, and the stress of humans' daily lives. He was just singing. I enjoyed every moment. Not something I can usually say about hanging out washing.Ā Just getting light here now, and it's cloudy and a bit dank, but dry.Ā

Thereās a new bird singing here as well. Iāve managed to spot him/her in the high branches of one of the Eucs, but we havenāt identified it yet. It gives three or four sharp short loud yells, then a very long loud high call. Hubby managed to get a photo of it when I called him out.Ā
I've been watching a blackbird hopping around the back lawn whilst I did the washing-up from last night. I presume he's one of a pair that visit regularly but I haven't got as far as being able to recognise and name our feathered friendsĀ Just doing his thing - disturbing the moss and finding his breakfast. It may well have been him that was messing around near the compost bin when I was planting bulbs the other day. Was showing no fear at being within touching distance or listening to my crooningĀ He best be careful as he may meet a sticky end if he gets that close to any of the moggies that slink around these partsĀ Ā
That's why I have one of those water scarecrows @Biglad. Persistent offenders. I had two dead blackbirds a year or two ago.Ā Ā The blackbirds are still a bit absent here - so much food round about for them. Haw berries in particular. I had one a few years ago that was identifiable. We called him Denzel. I'd get told off for that nowĀ Doing dishes from last night? Slatternly behaviour. Never happens here...

I think that might be a new insult for me @Fairygirl I'm going to try and use the word slattern as much as possible today.
Funnily enough I was considering what I would call a black bird with a good voice and came up with Whitney but I thought keeping that to myself might be bestĀ Besides, my limited ornothological knowledge tells me that this particular bird is male so it doesn't really work. Maybe RuPaul? Ok, ok - I'll put the spade down and stop digging the holeĀ Ā
