You leave @Dovefromabove's coccineous out of it @chicky :D
I just decided to get the s. peas now and sow some. Having that 'proper' early spring this year made me think I might as well do some again, just in case.  :)
I've done some whites in the Royal collection, after seeing how well the R. Crimson one flowered. The colour of it was a bit too 'in yer face', even for me, but it was great in the hot border, and some are still flowering now after starting in June.

I sowed my sweet peas in spring and grew them on in a large, deep pot on the terrace where it's cooler and watering is easier but even so they didn't do much so, as I have a couple of packets left, I shall sow them in the next couple of weeks and hope the early start sees them do better.  A dollop of horse muck should help them along when their feet get that far.

Patch for me this pm and mosaic afterwards, all with distancing and hygiene rules and masks.   Going to be interesting.

Hope you all have a lovely day and can enjoy what looks like the last days of summer this week.  We were supposed to be wet later on but it's been postponed to Wednesday now.  Another seeing and believing situation.

It’s going to be a while before I clean and tidy my borders this year .....just been out with my camera and there’s still plenty going on out there 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊😊😊

Enjoy patch and mosaic @Obelixx 🧵✂️.....what are this term’s projects?

@Obelixx - I know @Busy-Lizzie has trouble growing them as it just gets too hot. Hopefully, a cooler, earlier spot will be better for yours. I find even here, a hot, sunny site can be too  much for them, unless they're in the ground. Info always tends to say full sun for them, but the extreme temps many people are having is too much for them.
I have quite a lot in a shadier spot too - east-ish facing, or west but with some shade from the back  fence during the day. Even then, watering every day in pots is needed.

@Busy-Lizzie gets a lot colder in winter so I'm hoping they'll do better in the same pot - fresh compost and feed - but get a head start ready for spring.  Last April and May were summer heatwave hot and I reckon that's what did for their enthusiasm.

Patch projects this year are strip piecing, quilt as you go, crochet figures (not for me), a handy mat for sewing which doubles as a machine cover, Xmas goodies and the rest will come to me.....  patch brain not in gear yet after all these months off.

Don't tell OH @chicky but I had an epiphany a few days ago - I can grow a prairie style bed full of luscious, bright perennials like yours and just leave out all the ungainly boring grasses.  New shrub and tree border to mark out and mulch and plant first tho and a new veggie bed for the autumn plantings of garlic and broad beans.  They did so well last year I want to double their space.

    Morning all,

Busy day planned but stalling and having a browse on here instead :*

Need to get out there and finish a few jobs off. It's getting to the point where the weather will start to become a more regular deterrent.

  • Good morning all!

Early mist is lifting - still only 11C here but that's ok for digging and compost turning.  Faffy jobs can wait until the afternoon, when it'll be warmer (hopefully!).

How lovely to get your weekend away, @punkdoc.  Not jealous or anything... especially thinking of Scottish islands...   :/  ...our family cottage is currently occupied by a young couple who were stranded, living in a single room of a friend's house on the island, at the start of lockdown, because their rental cottage couldn't be made ready for them (family of deceased former owner lived off the island).  We couldn't let our cottage out for holidays because of the restrictions, so this is actually an ideal solution for us as well as them.  We get a little rent, and they plan to stay until next Spring, after which we might have a better idea when we'd be happy to have holidaymakers in the cottage.  :)

@D0rdogne_Damsel - sorry, I was a bit slow on the uptake there!  You're quite right, the temptation to spend any wages on plants would be hard to resist... might just ask to be paid in kind, and fill the garden with treasures.   :D

I was half wondering if @punkdoc was on 'your island' @Liriodendron;)
I was also wondering what you had done with it - kept meaning to ask you. That's turned out quite well for you. Very difficult though. I hope it all improves.
You'll soon get enough plants to fill your new garden if you play your cards right!

    Morning all,

Managed a bit of gardening yesterday, tidying up really. My compost area that was is coming along nicely, slowly but surely filling the gap. The long bed still has a lot of colour in it but I can see gaps and am trying to think of things for next year. The end of August can be a bit sad if nothing new is on the way 'up' rather than 'down'. A before and after for you. :)

  • This is my long bed and a little ditty I thought most appropriate.   B)
