I felt grown up at 17 ... and then hit 27 and realised I wasn’t .... now I’m still waiting to feel grown up @steveTu ...Ā
You know the Byrds’ song ... My Back Pages ... ā€œI was so much older then, I’m younger than that nowā€

Has anyone got some spare sun - or warmth that I could have for an hour or so?
kin' freezin here. It's not been above 18 in the kitchen. The tomatoes are looking very grumpy.Ā
I really want to get more sanding/painting of the lily pond surround done, but I may need a jacket as well as the fleece.Ā

The Byrds? Is that some hippy rock band or something?Ā
That takes me back...at senior school we hadĀ  strict hair length rules, so a few of us grew our hair in protest and one bright spark got the local paper involved. One of the quotes in the article was '...Jesus didn't have short hair...'. When my dad saw it (and me with the group in the photo) he went mad - me old bro' (4 years older and at the same school, but not involved) and me were kicked out of the house until we got our hair cut. Bro' went back with a 'skinhead' and asked my dad '...does this make me a different person?...'. Braver man than me, me old bro'...

...33 degrees in the conservatory (doing the ironing) down here....
I'm waiting for it to cool down a bit so I can dig a big 'ole to plant my wife's acer in..decided to bite the bullet and get it out of the pot it was in as it seems to suffer more and more each year no matter how much water I throw at it (maybe that's where I'm going wrong and I should use a watering can?).

Yes - throwing the water rarely worksĀ  ;)
It'll be happier in the ground. In that endless heat, you can never really get them hydrated enough. Almost impossible.Ā
I had a Ligularia I brought with me here. I had it in a big trug, and in the first year we were here, before I had a garden to plant it in, I had to move it into the shade. They love sun, but need damp feet, and I couldn't keep it watered enough to keep it happy for a week or two. It perked up as soon as I got it out of the sun. We don't even have that prolonged heat you get down there, so it shows how difficult it can be to keep plants well enough hydrated.Ā

@steveTu I'll see your local paper and raise you national press and TV for my "get your hair cut" adventure. Strangely enough my Covid hair is now the same length I got kicked out of school for - just a different colour.
I think the 27 thing came from a setting in our profiles when some IT bright spark set 27 as the default for everybody.

No - it was a former poster who made the comment about being 27 @steephill, and it caught on. She doesn't post now.Ā

I've remembered - Gardening Grandma was the posterĀ  :)

  • Believe it or not @steveTu although I'm '27' my son spends his evenings with his guitar playing Byrds, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and other such stuff ... although this time last year he was working with Mr Sheeran and this weekend he's working with an internationally successful New Wave/Post Punk band (can't put who on the board 'cos it's all embargoed at the moment).Ā  Nothing if not eclectic my family ... I used to work for an Early Music venue and sang in two 'traditional' choirs and backing with a Blues band ;)Ā

On another subject ... on Friday we are driving to meet up with niece before she starts her life at Uni ... she has a steady boyfriend she met at sixth form college and she wants us to meet him ... so we’re going to meet up in the parkland of a stately home and have a socially distanced walk and picnic ... toĀ avoid the need to visit public loos I have acquired one of theseĀ https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/392865022800?r ... DUnbrandedĀ ...Ā I’ve a feeling that when/if I have to use it, the performance will probably take place in a layby with me being shielded on one side by an open car door and on other sides by OH with arms outstretched holding a large beach towel. Dignified it will not be ... but it’ll be a reliefĀ Ā lolĀ not to have to use public loosĀ thumbsup

I've given it a try out ... remarkably straightforward, leakproof and small enough for a small back pack or larger handbag.Ā  Sorted šŸ‘

@steveTu it's very simple .... it was agreed many years ago that everyone here is 27 ... we decided that 27 is the ideal age ... old enough to be grown up but not so old that we had to be sensible ... we are all 27, Fairy is 27, Hosta is 27, Busy Lizzie is 27, Punkdoc is 27, Liri, YvieStevie, Dordogne Damsel ... everyone who posts here is 27 ... I am 27 and so is my daughter WonkyWomble ... isn't that right @Fairygirl?
I’m glad you left me out ......coz I’m 26 🤣🤣🤣
  • Will 'o the wisp of course @WonkyWomble ... we know someone who told their children they could name their new house and they called it Will 'o the wisp don't we Wonky?

And talking about music ... we mustn't forget your Lovely Hub and his DJ-ing ... different music yet again.Ā Ā  B)
