Morning - quick pop in before we leave for our visit to IBCC - really looking forward to it. Feels quite warm today.
LB - it’s really interesting to hear about your dad’s work. Had a quick Google about the Thor missiles. Seems Shepherd’s Grove was another base for those. Just up the road from us - glad they weren’t there long!
Also had a look at tobacco housing. A couple of references suggest the estates were built by the Brits to house the US men and their families and paid for with tobacco. When the Americans left the buildings reverted to LA ownership. Quite a few estates were built in this way. Never heard of them before - my new bit of knowledge for today😎
I’m another one who often has the TV on just as a background noise and movement. Some people are a bit sniffy about it but they are all people who have always lived with other people around them. I was on my own for 4 years before I married and then hubby was away for 4 or 5 days at a time for work and the TV was a form of company. Noticed MIL has started having hers on a lot more since FIL died.
Nothing wrong with it at all.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Morning everyone, Sun is shining at the moment, hope it stays for a few days. This cold grey weather is getting me down a bit. Not usually affected by season change, but I suppose being almost indoors since March won't help. Going to cut the grass and tidy up pots etc. Probably put sun lounges away in the garage wrapped up for the winter.....never leave them outside overnight during the summer anyway.....but need to put away properly.
Topbird, sorry to hear about spilt wine, glad cream covers were ok though, phewww. Can remember only a couple of weeks after we got a cream carpet for the lounge......a few years ago.....OH knocked over his mug of coffee......thankfully we got it out with a good spray of carpet cleaner. Debs, think we are all feeling this way from time to time. Your'e probably really tired, ýouve worked hard all through these crazy last 6 months. And you've had other worries too. Hope you get your kitchen sorted soon and that your fiancee can work nearer home. I was going to suggest the same as Hazel, could you not put the tv on a stand rather than putting on a wall. It would probably still be a dominate feature even on another wall. How lovely that you have a fireplace is the main focal point. Hopefully the new supervisor will settle in soon, shame she's a bit bossy. Perhaps she feels a bit awkward being the new person and feels left out.......hopefully that and it's not her normal manner. So much nicer if it's a happy ship in the workplace. Much nicer getting up to go to work without the worry of wondering what the atmosphere is going to be like. Take care Debs, big hugs. Hazel have fun with 23. Hope your daughter gets better soon. My minds gone blank, sorry everyone. Have a good day and take care.
Thanks for all your kind thoughts. At least waking early meant I got on with the painting.
My mom was always very scathing about tv watching when eating she always had a seat at the table in a separate area even for a sandwich and tv only went on when she was watching it . She strongly disapproved of TVs in the bedroom too. A little sniff and the one word “common”. She was a miners daughter from Sunderland brought up in Aston in Birmingham but she had her own set of rules. Even now I feel guilty if my handbag and shoes don’t match and I cannot wear underwear that doesn’t match either. Mothers!
Difficulties getting on res but Success. Topbird you’re having an interesting break. It’s good to get away for a while. It’s good your cream covers were alright. LB I hope your plumbing is a success. Debs I hope your new person settles in and your working life becomes easier. Hazel enjoy your time with 23. Chive I hope your day goes well. Lily have you had another outing? I hope you have a good day and keep dry.
Toilet sorted now. Engineer was only here about 30 minutes in total. I am envious of those who have sunshine. Dreich here.
T'Bird, thanks for passing on the research re the tobacco houses. My new bit of knowledge too. I must have skipped looking up that meaning on my 'to do' list. We lived in one of the tobacco houses and got to know lots of the American children. Most went to our school too. That period of time introduced me to houses without stairs(!), barbecues, Barbie Dolls (I really really wanted one - all those wonderful outfits), and luaus, drinks kept in dustbins filled with ice at parties, central heating and automatic washing machines. We children having turns being driven around in an Austin Healey sports car by one of Mum and Dad's American friends was just so thrilling. Marvellous! Those were truly lovely times.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Talking about having TV on so that voices can be heard, my Mum had a budgie in her failing years called Paxo, and she always left the radio on when she was able to get out so that Paxo had some 'company'. We used to smile about that.

Good Morning all, up and out sharpish this morning to the SM wanted to get it out of the way, Debs I love eating a lap dinner and watching television, something so comfortable about that. I can understand you wanting to take control over something in whatever form, mind how you go with lifting the tele though, Rubee hope you have a good day, how are Rufus & Bruno are they getting on ok? LB I’m glad the plumber was prompt and rectified the problem for you. You have a lot to be proud of your dad, wonderful stories and memories so interesting to hear, T’bird oh my a red wine box explosion I can’t even begin to imagine 😳 thank goodness it missed the cream covers! I thought I’d heard you pour white wine on a red wine spill to neutralise it, but it does seem an awful waste, Hazel hope you have a lovely time with 23 today, is it tomorrow he starts at nursery? or am I getting muddled now with Yvies GC 🤔 hope your daughter feels better soon, Lily The year has been messed up, it’s understandable that you feel like that. Hope the sunshine puts in an appearance and brightens up your day, Rosie nice to see you, sorry your still having trouble getting on what a nuisance, Right time for the little people, have a nice afternoon 🙂
Chive Rufus and Bruno are fine thanks . Yesterday morning all the cats decided to have a runabout all over the house .It was ok until one of them decided to run over my head while I was asleep in bed. I nearly jumped out of my skin .I have a small scratch on my face ,but no harm done except being shocked. Not a nice way to be woken up though.
The sun shone brightly for a short while and it did get warmer but overcast now. Thinking about what to have for tea, feeling a little peckish. LB I love the story of Paxo the budgie keeping mum company and her leaving the radio on for him when she went out. Our little friends are our companions and well loved.
