Thank goodness she has signed it tho @Busy-Lizzie. I hope you get a better sleep tonight now. Same system in Belgium - Napoleonic Code stuff to stop primogeniture inheritance but can lead to desperate messes when survivors disagree or refuse to sell and share. Napoleon was a second son so had a vested interest I suppose. I expect you'll be glad of some peace for a while to get on and get things done and it'll be good to have your OH there for a natter and support.
After some faffing and some research and some more proof-reading for Possum, I have been out and planted some bulbs we'd dug up when cleaning out the bed under the silk tree. A few more to sort out and plant and then, after the next downpour, we can mulch it all with chipped bark and cross our fingers it all grows well. We've put a metre width of weed fabric all round the trunk so the tree has less competition and we get less bindweed and other horrors to weed out between treasures. I need one more red flowered shrub to fill a gap and then it'll be done.

But Napoleon died 200 years ago .....haven’t we (and primogeniture) moved on ? Glad daughter signed @Busy-Lizzie. Can understand her regrets at losing her childhood home, but would hope she could support you in your efforts to make your life work for you now.
Littlest Chicklet just returned home from work (local gastropub) a bit distressed. A large family gathering in the pub garden resulted in a punch up (man attacked wife), glassing, blood everywhere and general chaos. One of her colleagues got cut whilst trying to intervene. She was inside consoling other guests who had fled inside terrified. It’s a lovely place that we have been to many times .... thankfully never witnessed scenes like that before. She’s a bit shaken ☹️
Not what you expect in leafy Surrey chicky, sorry your daughter had to witness such appaling behaviour. If you have never been exposed to that sort of violence before it will be a dreadful shock.
Chicky, sorry your daughter had to witness that. People are getting fed up with the various situations resulting from virus closure etc. lots of tension.
weve had rain all night. A peep through the curtains shows water laying in every possible dip.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ ((hugs)) for @chicky and Littlest Chicklet ... not nice 😢
As @Pat E says, there’s a lot of anxieties and tensions simmering just under the surface ... sadly it’s become apparent that short term reactive measures are all our government has come up with; now there’s the prospect of chickens coming home to roost, the government has no idea what to and the anxiety level in the population is rising.
No more rain since the ten minutes we had yesterday morning. The forecast is for a dull day with the chance of a shower around lunchtime ...

Morning Hosta and Dove. There was 25 mm in the gauge this morning and now at 4pm there’s another 5 mm. All good for us. The river is running well and the dams we can see from the house are full, 👏👏.
It’s a very quiet day here and lots of phone calls, so nothing bad yet for us.
My sister who lives in Ulladulla said there has been a virus case (locally for her) at Rick Steins restaurant. Not good.
Good morning everyone. Cool and grey here and they think we'll get some rain this evening. However, our forecast seems to change almost by the hour so I'll just wait and see. Feels like it should be drizzling now.
@chicky - it's a wonder it hasn't been changed given the problems it causes but it does mean parents can't disinherit their children and leave it all to the donkey refuge. Napoleon also introduced the metric system because the French can't do sums using the human scale imperial system tho you can still by a "livre" of fruit and veg (500g) and he also changed to driving on the right so armed men didn't pass each other on the sword side and whack each other. Those changes have stuck too.
I hope chicklet is OK this morning. No excuse for that sort of behaviour at any time but especially now when everyone is in the same boat, dealing with stress, insecurity and worries. Need to be even more careful of and for each other, not indulge in tantrums and bad behaviour.
Glad you've had some good rainfall @Pat E . OH is out there playing with his big strimmer before we get anymore. Fingers crossed.
Hope everyone's had a good sleep and you're all set for a good day.

IMHO nobody is "entitled" to inherit anything from anyone. What one has one should have the freedom to dispose of as one desires. ( not matter how many might disagree with the decision )
Morning all. I'm fine with the children inheriting a share but what I'm against is that they can have the power to interfere with the sale of the widow or widower's house. Or, they way it used to be in France - the children inherit and the widow gets very little and was sometimes chucked out of her house. My father wanted to give the family house to my sister, I was married then and living in a nice house. He asked if I minded and I said what I thought that it was his house bought with money he'd earned so he was free to do as he liked. My sister was living in a rented flat with small children and couldn't afford a house.
@chicky, well done to chicklet for helping others when she was in shock herself.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
