Sadly, there are now 3 deaths reported in the derailment

We now have a (relatively) cool breeze running through - Ahhh! Chicky's pots will be nicely watered for her return with any luck.

I expect it will all be fine @Busy-Lizzie, as you say, you can hardly turn them away now.
There's no more risk than if you were in England and had friends to stay in my opinion.
It sounds like as your son knew you have a large house with ample bathrooms, it would be okay and perhaps he was put on the spot by his friends. I would however make plain that they are expected to cater for themselves and you expect all the used rooms to be thoroughly cleaned before they leave. You could even get everybody to tidy the garden for you!

Evening. It been 32 plus here today. I was dreading today as morning meeting and afternoon at the computer shortlisting for interview but luckily we were in a cool (ish) room and it was ok. My colleagues are roasting in the main hospital though. Poor pataients as well. I also feel sad for my father-in-law who is bed/bedroom bound now and it’s pretty hot there.

I keep checking the weather sites to see when we will be having rain but it keeps being put forward 🙄
I hope you can all have a comfortable night.

Evening all,  Still really hot here.  We had a tremendous light show last night, continuous flashes and rumbling thunder for hours, but no rain.  Tonight it has rained but not for long so don't suppose it will have done much good.  Looked after grandsons again today took them out to the local country park and had a picnic and a walk round the lake.  It's about a mile and think it was a bit ambitious but we recovered with an ice cream when we finished the circuit.
Have had a rough couple of weeks and it is now looking like Secondborn and her Hubby will be going their separate ways.  It's very, very sad but no-one else is involved and I'm sure that they willl put the boys first in any decisions they make.  Secondborn is going to be looking for a place to rent as close to the house as possible.  The boys will have their own rooms in both houses. I have no idea how all this will work out.  All we can do is be there for them and keep things as normal as possible for the boys.

That's sad @Yviestevie and it will be hard for you as well as them to make all the adjustments.   Not the best time either for taking on new economic commitments.   Such a worry.

  • Goodness me, I love the heat but have never felt this so hot in the UK! Potted on a couple of Delphiniums, sweat pouring....used  Strulch - a new product I've not used before on a new bed i planted last week, much easier than bark. Anyone any experience of it?
After one bag i was struchled , needing a shower and  long G & T!!
