Son has been on the Gower with cousins for a few days ... he says that for a change the rain waited for him to have his little holiday and leave before it let rip ⛈

Sat enjoying the cool of the evening here. Watching the butterflies on the buddleja- thought they went to bed when the sun sank below the horizon, but they are still working away. Lots of admirals and peacocks here @Fairygirl .....but never seen a tortoiseshell, even though I keep my eyes constantly peeled 👀. The buddleja scent is lovely too - must extend the bed for next year 😀😀😀
Lovely lunch out with the Chicklets today 😋. Chicklet moves to Bournemouth on Wednesday, so making the most of it. One silver lining of lockdown is that I have had all my brood with me for the last six months. An unexpected treat 😍. But now it’s time to move on - big girl pants required 🤣🤪🙄😢
Small world @Busy-Lizzie , we had friends in Ipswich and visited several times before they divorced and moved. Visited the local Record Office when we were there to research all OH's ancestors.
Good morning all. At last! It has rained and pretty hard. There were thunderstorms in the night. The grass is beige and the bracken in the woods looks autumnal. I think there will be more rain and storms this week.
There was a big fire the other day near where my daughter 2 lives. Her hay farmer, supplies hay for her 2 horses, lost 800 bales and a barn.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ It’s sort of hazy here and apparently there’s patchy fog across norfolk ... think we’re due some storms on Thursday and Friday.
Hay fires are so difficult @Busy-Lizzie they can smoulder unseen for so long before whoosh! 🔥
When I was a child there was a straw fire in a barn and yard just across the driveway from our
farmhouse ... a passing neighbour saw it and rushed to the house to rouse Pa ... we dialled999 and some twenty minutes later the Debenham fire engine, manned by local volunteers, arrived and pumped water from the pond to put the fire out.
I can remember it all seeming very exciting but I was very young ... now I realise how alarming it must’ve been for my parents ... it was so close to our home ... a lot of straw was lost and the beautiful Victorian barn and walled cattle yard had to be demolished.

Morning all, I wish the rain would come our way, looking at the radar predictions it's sweeping up over the mountains and going west of us. Lawns also brown with bits of clover sprouting out, but less hot and humid today. OH is pruning one of our large cherry trees, I have told him to try and keep it to shape but he doesn't understand the difference between shape and hacking off branches.
No rain here either @floralies but we may get some tonight. Not sleeping well at the mo because the 2 young cats get active in the cool of the night and want to play and/or have cuddles but then go and hide and sleep all day while I do my zombie impression.
We have no grass left, just beige stumps that feel like straw when I walk on them. Bits of green from clover, achillea and a few other weeds. Needless to say the short showers we had in the early thunder storm on Sunday have led to many wee weeds appearing in the beds but I need more rain before I can hoe them off.
Painting for me then - door frames and new door trim which then needs to be installed.
Hay and straw barn fires can be very hot and fierce @Busy-Lizzie so I hope no-one was hurt. Let's hope we all get some good rain.
It sounds like a good day out and a good summer generally @chicky but, as you say, things have to change and move on. I hope it goes well for chicklet and all other young people starting out on a new phase of life.

Morning people, OMG its so hot 33.1c in the shade here, an awful night. One fan gave up the ghost, put the second one on, just a cheap 12 inch desk top it says, it rattles like the devil, after 3 attempts to move it, stop the rattle, had no choice but to turn it off. Portable air conditioning unit, and air cooler should be here 13th.
Another warm, sunny one here, though Ireland has remained green this summer. There have been some dry spells, but not for long enough to frazzle anything, fortunately.
Glad you've had some rain at last, @Busy-Lizzie - the fires sound frightening. I remember when the children were small, taking them to see one of Hubby's relatives near Malvern, who lived in an isolated house surrounded by arable fields. It was in the days when farmers still burned stubble. The wind got up and the house was engulfed in smoke, as the flames spread to the woodland on the edge of the fields. Needless to say the children were very frightened... the fire brigade came quickly though and all was well.
Hopefully you'll get more rain soon, @obelixx... we also have a cat who wants to play, or have an early breakfast, at antisocial hours so I understand the zombie effect. She starts by yowling outside the bedroom, just to make sure we're awake and taking notice.
Need to stay close to home because the plumbers are wrangling the solar heating system. I might have to carry on weeding the gravel... ah well, it gives plenty of thinking time.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
