Can you remember what you were doing on the 13th July !985? We were watching a recording of Live Aid last night and it prompted much reminiscing of what each of us was doing at the time.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I was with my then wife and a friend listening on the radio on the beach in Bournemouth , then in the car on the way home and watched the rest of it on TV . Sitting on sun loungers indoors, as we couldn't afford to pay the balance on two sofas we'd ordered. We walked round to the local phone box to phone and pledge some money.
I was on holiday in Cyprus. My sister recorded it for me on one of the old vhs tapes. We broke the tabs off to stop anyone recording over it (remember that life hack?) and watched it over and over again. Particularly Paul Young ☺️
Soggy here but that hasn't deterred the wildlife. The roe buck is doing his finest John Cleese impersonation - stamping his little hooves and giving the saplings a sound thrashing with his horns. A large jay just scrumped an apple from one of my trees, I thought they were carnivores. Then a fox cub popped out of the undergrowth for a quick scritch before diving back in. All this in the space of five minutes. There are photos of last night's shenanigans but I'll spare your blushes.
I was never a Queen fan, but I agree, they totally owned the event. I think it is one of those events, that people do seem to remember what they were doing on the day. Was it the day that rock music changed the world.

I watched the programmes last week, or week before @punkdoc. They were excellent. I didn't see much of it at the time, as I had just met my future husband and we went out for dinner. I suppose we didn't really realise the enormity of it at the time. Whatever else you think about Mr Geldof, without him as the driving force, I don't think any of it would have happened. Midge Ure is always quite accepting and graceful about it all too - in public anyway! Queen really did own the whole thing though. No one quite like Freddy. Although every time I hear Quo doing Rockin' all over the World, I think of Live Aid. Was there ever a better way to start it? Paul Young has aged beautifully too @chicky Isn't/wasn't Andy Kershaw a complete ****** though? He was a classic example of the type of twut around in the 80s
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Agree about Quo, although because they were no longer "hip", nobody except Geldof thought they should open. Good job he got his way. I think he is one of those people who are very clever, but also totally guileless [ if that is even possible ] and that is what enabled him to do it. Whether you love him, or hate him, I expect he is responsible for saving many thousands of lives and not many people can say that.

My youngest watched some of it with me, and I had to remind her that the 80s was a very different time - no t'interweb etc to arrange that kind of thing -people had to pick up a phone! He was motivated to do something @punkdoc - and he did it. Instead of talking endlessly, arranging committees, having 'inquiries' and all that carry on that those in power would have done [or not] . He just got off his arse and did something, and followed it through. We've become a bit blase about these kinds of events now, but it's easy to forget the enormity of it during that time. The Quo boys never pretended to be something they weren't. Cheeky chappies right to the end too.
