The weather vane is a re-opening present from my ex @chicky . It's a sort of private joke because he used to find it amusing that I wanted everything 'perfect', & if I got a bit stroppy when things weren't he'd say "ok Mary" just to bring me back to reality. Its quite a sweet gesture from him, bless. And yes, @Busy-Lizzie I am extremely stressed and really struggling to sleep. So much to do, such high expectations from everyone, it's all so public, customers have been watching and waiting for weeks and now running out of time.

Last few days, just need to get some long hours in. Just can't seem to get the carpenter off site and his tools are everywhere! All inside is clean though. Ever onwards!

  • You forkers are fab! I follow this thread every day and it justs makes me smile and feel  good about the world!  I live in a very rural spot; saw my neighbour today - an 89 year old widow who owns all the land surrounding us called Woodwall Green. She's been on her own for 41 years, no kids just chickens, geese and dogs (all in and out of the house!) to keep her company.  She's known locally as the witch and, when washing the morning dishes I glimpsed her and her Covid hair. God! She looked like the wild woman from Borneo! But, (even though she's a miserable old bigger and a pain in the arse to talk to) I thought it right to share some time with her.  She's deaf as a post; social distancing and shouting don't go hand in hand for an hour and a half! Heh Ho, I felt I did my bit and gave her a tour of the two acre garden which had been neglected for ten years plus. She was curmudgeonly impressed, even offering that I should open it up to the visitors scheme. Looking in the greenhouses she said "how much money have you spent on plants?", judging by the empty pots - a lot!!! I told her, I am a woman who does not collect shoes but plants, when I am dead there will be a lovely place in NW Staffordshire bursting into life each year. As she left the garden she paused by a flower bed; "I like this one", looking down she had a nettle in her knargled, old hands - you missed this one - grumpy old bugger!

Good morning all 😊 ☕️ it’s a beautiful morning, wall to wall blue sky and sunshine ... and OH is at home for the next three days 😎

@D0rdogne_Damsel that’s amazing ... the view from there is wonderful ... it’s going to be such a popular spot to sit with coffee and cake and watch the world.

@sambevington I think you might have made a sort of friend 😊

Your neighbour sounds a bit like one of my neighbours, Sam. She has about 20 cats I think.  She doesn’t bother us though.

good morning everyone. The wind from the south is very brisk today. At least the ski resorts are happy. Snow making adding to the little that fell.

Oh dear @Hostafan1 ... I have my loose floaty trousers on ... perhaps I’ve frightened the warmth away ... except it’s lovely here ... I was outside in my pjs and bare feet on the dewy grass at 5:30 this morning ☀️

I think the thermometer read 18C yesterday, but hubby didn't take his pullover off all day.

@sam bevington I’m rocking the wild woman of Borneo look at the moment ......hoping it will catch on 🦁

Lovely gift @D0rdogne_Damsel 😀.  Hope your tables arrive today 🤞🏻

Gonna be a hot one here today.  I have seedlings to prick out first thing, then I’m going to loll around in it 😎.  Seedlings are very late (rudbeckias), but Carol Klein told me early June was not too late to sow them so I am giving it a go.  Hoping for flowers by August 🙄.  But in a good year they go on til October, so I hope it will be worth the effort 😮.

Sorry I missed your birthday yesterday @Pat E and hope you enjoy a very happy 9th decade.

Hope your tables turn up @D0rdogne_Damsel but maybe have a word with your mayor about borrowing some commune tables just in case?   They won't be needing them at the mo I expect.

@sam bevington nothing wrong with quirky neighbours.  It's unpleasant ones you have to worry about.

OH is off golfing today so I get to play on my own in the garden.   Expecting to hit 30C by 5pm so I think I'll go and play in the goat shed before it gets too warm - fixing a big panel of insulation on the west wall to cover gaps in the walls, keep out the afternoon heat and prevailing winds winter winds.
