Had my early start morning to do the shopping and MIL visit, so when I put my feet up to watch Gardenerās World this afternoon I had a three hour nap!Ā
The āgentle breezeā described by the forecast today was pretty blowy and I gave up doing some of my garden jobs. Itās Summer Solstice tonight - I was hoping to celebrate by sitting out with a drink and maybe a Chiminea fire, but itās too windy.Ā
After lunch I though I would just check the weather forecast before deciding what job in the garden I'd do next. Read the sentence which said 'No precipitation', looked up and out the window to find it was pouring with rain! So read the paper instead.
We went to Peter Beales Classic Roses. The garden looked wonderful, will post photos when I find the thread. There was a yellow rose we both loved, Grosvenor House, bred by Peter Beales, so OH bought it for me and I've planted it in the front garden. There is no room in the back unless I dig up some lawn. They also had Geranium Magnificum which I have looked for for some time.
A tooth next to my left upper canine has broken, bother. That's the side I chew on, having to chew on the right side.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all. We actually had rain last night. Amazing!
Nice day today though. Sunny and mild. I did a bit of gardening as well. I always feel better after Iāve been outside for a whileš
Good morning all š āļø We hadĀ wifi problems yesterday evening but all seems better today. Ā
@lyn the fire looks terrible ... thankfully they say no one was hurt but itās a huge blow to the town. Many people think of Holt as a wealthy spot where you can see the royals doing their Christmas shopping, but actually the area is home to a lot of families struggling on the minimum wage or below, as well as the royals and Stephen Fry et al. Budgens is the only supermarket in the town, many folk have no vehicle of their own and public transport is āsketchyā in North Norfolk. Ā The local authority is going to have to think and act swiftly https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/budgens-of-holt-massive-fire-1-6710370Ā .
Thatās a lovely rose @Busy-Lizzie ... a very pretty soft yellow, not harsh like some yellows. Which way does the front of the Ā cottage face?
Good to see you @Pat E ... itās good for the soul to get out in the sunlight āļøĀ it looks as if weāve got a week of sunshine coming up ... OH cut the grass yesterday and he said heāll do the edges today so the garden will look at its best in the sunshine. šĀ
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
No sun here at the mo and they reckon a dribble of rain later on and a whole 18C.Ā However, sunshine later this pm and warming up thru the week.
Lovely rose @Busy-Lizzie.Ā Ā I have a chipped tooth on both sides now and still no dentist.Ā Being very careful.Ā Ā An English couple has just returned to their summer home here and are doing 15 days isolation.Ā Ā Will you have to do that too, assuming your flight goes ahead
I sanded down 2 sides of the goat shed yesterday with the idea of painting it cream ready for becoming a hen house.Ā The wood is so dry I've given it teak oil instead so it's now looking a very rich brown, but happy.Ā Ā Ā Maybe paint it cream later then.Ā
So sorry to read about the terrible fire in Holt. Itās so lucky that no one was hurt.Ā
Thatās a beautiful rose Busy-Lizzie.Ā
Must tell you about my neighbour, their family were furloughed so, like many, they decided to dig up a small area of rough grass and grow some veg... Ā Liz, the mum, sowed full packets of lettuce, kale and pepper seeds into small containers. She said all the seeds germinated and she had hundreds of tiny seedlings. She offered me half a container crammed with Kale (which I havenāt grown before.) I duly pricked out at least 40 of the tiny plants and grew them on until big enough to plant out, thinking how smooth the leaves were. I asked Liz if she was sure the plants were Kale and could they be lettuce. They are definitely kale, she said, because the lettuce she sowed didnāt germinate. Ā Once planted out they grew rapidly and began to heart up. You guessed it, they are lettuce.š Iāve never had such a good crop!!Ā
