The loss of any pet is always a sad affair but I find it quite creepy that people feel the need to Tweet or whatever about the death of a pet.
I also disagree. Even in his understandable grief at losing a beloved pet, Monty is aware how many people love the dogs and had the politeness to let them know. I think it was extremely thoughtful of him.
I know that he might not see this and i don't go on Twitter but
Monty so sorry to hear about nigel, for me and hubby he stealed the show and we always looked forward to seeing him and Nellie. Yesterday when I heard on another forum about nigel i couldn't believe it. We have goldies and seeing nigel and Nellie is very special to us. It was like losing one of ours and I'm very sad about it.
I like Monty's writing style .... I've got a number of his books including his doggie one. I think the tribute to Nigel made us all remember dogs we have loved and lost.
Ours was called Tiksi ... a Siberian Husky ... she was a lovely dog who we were so lucky to have.

I was sorry to hear of Nigel's death and sad for Monty. He was a great dog. I still miss my Tigger (Border Collie). Dogs can be good friends.
