Thanks for the PM, @Dovefromabove. We are a bit gloomy here, but not a surprise really and todays news regarding MIL is a bit better. She is a tough old bird [ bit like her daughter ] My mum seems to have gone from being a sprightly intelligent 93 year old, to a confused wreck overnight. Moira's job has finished, but there is nothing to spend money on anyway. Sorry to be a misery guts. Stay well.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
It's all swings and roundabouts, isn't it @punkdoc At least MIL is a bit more chipper. Sorry about your mum - it's a hideous situation. Have you been in the garden though? Any seeds to sow, pruning to do,Ā or cuttings to take?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
We were out clapping last night too I was pleasantly surprised at how many were out here. Just had a new wooden cold frame delivered got to go and assemble it, no instructions with it so had to come in and down load it, so I thought I would check in here. B All the best to everyone.
We all have days like that @punkdoc.Ā Ā The trick is not to let them proliferate.Ā Ā You are not alone.Ā Ā It's a very trying situation for everyone but especially those with family far away and/or with health issues already.
Try and find something good to think about and do for you and Moira and maybe write a letter for those out of immediate reach.Ā Concentrate on small triumphs.Ā Let go of all the things over which you have no control or you'll get in a downward spiral.Ā Ā
Totally agree with @Obelixx. Tiny battles can be wonĀ
Motivation is always tricky isn't it, @punkdoc , even when the sun shines. I think we talked about the little 'achievable list' a while ago, and I mentioned that I'd suggested it to my sister. She did that, and it made a huge difference. She found her mojo again quite rapidly. It's that 'the whole 40 foot border needs weeded, I can't face it'Ā thing, but if you just do a bit a couple of feet long each day, that's easier. I'm essentially an optimistic person, but I also know that deep melancholy only too well. Take pleasure in tiny things. I just watched the robin picking at something he'd found. It always raises a smileĀ

... Let go of all the things over which you have no control or you'll get in a downward spiral.Ā Ā
That's been myĀ modus vivendi for quite a while now .... it's the only way to surviveĀ
It doesn't mean that we don't care ... but we don't have to take responsibility ...Ā apart from exercising our democratic rights/duties of course.
It's like when I was working ... I was involved with stuff that would make folk weep ... it certainly made me weep ... I had to learn to leave it at work ... when I stepped away from the office and shut my car door my other life started.Ā It's not so easy for those who are working from home but there has to be a way.Ā Ā
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Afternoon all, just come in from the garden, my plans to take it easy today didn't quite work out.Ā Ended up emptying pots and rearranging them tidying up pond area and moving some grasses that had taken root in the gravel area up to the top bed.Ā Hubby has been mending the garden lights and laying a few cables for some new ones.Ā Think we have both had our exercise for the day.
Sorry you are feeling down @punkdoc, I know exactly how you feel it's hard to challenge your thoughts when everything around you seems to be dragging you down.Ā You have to get out in the garden and do a little bit each day, in the words of Delboy 'you know it makes sense'.
As for taking a video of Hubby clapping in the bath @Fairygirl it would give the grandchildren nightmares.
It's ok @punkdoc - we know, deep down, that it's easy to give advice or whatever, but its never that simple to follow it. It's more about giving you a wee bit of support if possible, and holding your hand - from a distance. 2 metres distance, of courseĀ @Yviestevie - did he have a rubber duck in with him, or a submarine?Ā You could have done a comparison photo - one as aĀ baby, and one as an adultĀ When we were looking through photos recently, I came across the one of youngest fairylet in her Cosy Coupe when she was little, so we're going to get a pic of her in her car and put them in a double frameĀ Raining again so I've had to come in. Typical - I was trying to do a little mortaring of rocks etc round the pond.Ā

fantastic advice, as always. Problem is I was someone who always took his problems home, that was what eventually ended my career.
