  • thanks @Nollie - I remember Monty talking about his stinky nettle tea lol. The whole NPK thing really confuses me but seeing it in action in my own garden helps! I'll hold off on the feed for a while to let Princess Anne and probably Lady of Shalott reset a bit.

    One of my favourite things about gardening is that I'm always learning something new :-)

    I like the changes in yellow on Julia Child above, it's very nice. I have a lot of yellow roses already though. I have another on my tentative/changeable shopping list, a crisp looking yellow by Delbard, the name escapes me off the top of my head.

    This jolly yellow, Agnes, was planted over winter and has beaten most of my established roses to flower.

    And one futher away showing the true colour as my phone couldn't seem to correct it close up:

    I already like this rose, it is in a dank kind of spot, north east facing and fences are close together so it only seems to get a bit of dappled sunlight. It has a strong and very sweet scent which is almost overpowering on first sniff, but then turns out to be just right. Hope it's a wafter when it grows up. I think it will brighten up this gloomy corner.

    @newbie77, yes it deserves it’s English name, a Marlorena recommendation of course! Only a light fragrance though.

    @Victoria Sponge, Agnes looks nice, a yellow is a good call to brighten up a shady corner. Could your Delbard be Chateau de Cheverny? If not, worth a look, it’s an ADR winner, said to be disease resistant and very fragrant. https://www.georgesdelbard.com/product/rosier-chateau-de-cheverny

    I was looking at Delbard’s site recently as I am pretty impressed with with La Rose de Molinard’s strong fragrance and wondered what others they had.

    I like that one too @Nollie but the one I was looking at is President Armand Zinsch which Beales sell. I also have Henri Delbard on my list, a funky orange.

    Just coincidence as I wasn't especially looking for Delbard roses and also I had Bordure Camaieu which died in a frost, but thought I might have another shot on the sunny side of the garden.

    @Nollie
    ...I'm surprised you don't get much scent from your JC rose... I got a strong anise scent, hints of myrrh, like an Austin... I loved it, and used to get neighbours to take a whiff of it...  not really strong, but good enough to comment on...

    Delbard do one of the most strongly scented roses available.... but it's a hybrid tea..
    called 'Chartreuse de Parme'... I was amazed by it... if you want a rose with a scent to blow you away, then do try it... large blooms too..

    Ah, but ‘not really strong’ means barely detectable to me @Marlorena! OH doesn’t get much from it either, so maybe it’s lost in my heat. I saw Chartreuse de Parme when browsing and thought the colour was fantastic. Looks like I shall have to get over my resistance to HTs!
