@Tack you can get it as a bare root from cottage memories

I have decided to order Ebb Tide- last garden purchase this year. PB sell it, but those recent posts about them have given me pause. Would you go with them, or some other random internet nursery? This place, Cants of Colchester, also sells them

@sarinka I was considering buying that particular rose as well. Ashwood Nurseries have it as well:

That being said, I was very pleased with my order of Florentina from PB earlier this year. It came in excellent shape and has done very well in the garden.

@sarinka I’ve heard on here that C&K Jones are excellent, but I’ve never ordered from them personally.

Not sure about Cants, anyone know?

Thanks so much. I just ordered Ebb Tide from C&K Jones, and the sun has now come out, so may as well go and dig a hole for it.

Btw pitter, looked up that red Fiorentina rose, gorgeous

How did your Clarence House do this year @edhelka, did it put out any new basals? I guess they will make all make good plants eventually, but do think it’s a cheek given they charge up to 17.50 for a bare root. I have complained about two roses but doubt I will get much satisfaction if that is their norm. This is my worst, really runty:

@Nollie Decent new growth from those two canes but no new basals. I think it is one of those climbers that are reluctant to grow new basals which is maybe why they sent it with two canes only.

Well I had a very speedy response to my questioning the two particularly below-par bare roots from PB, so full marks to them for that. The short stubby shrub, with three canes growing in a straight line (very odd looking) they say will be fine as it’s a vigorous rose, so I have accepted that. For the tiny 2-caned HT with a really puny root stock, they said they all grew like that this year and are not prepared to replace it with a better specimen as they don’t have anything better. I responded to say that they should have told me they could not provide a good specimen of that rose and gave me the option to choose something else, rather than send out a sub-standard specimen that is too tiny to plant out and needs growing on for a year first, particularly as they say they only supply ‘the finest quality’ roses. The response I expected, really. Maybe I am just spoilt by TCL and expecting too much.
