I heeled a new rose in recently, but woke up this morning with it completely buried under snow. Is this a problem...do I need to keep the canes free of snow.
@newbie77, sorry for not responding earlier, my notifications aren’t coming coming through for some reason. I would have just pulled off the blackspotted leaves too and left the new or healthy growth if it wasn’t for the rose slugs. Stormy Weather did not want to let go of it’s leaves either @Mr. Vine Eye, had to use the secateurs!
Most of my new roses in the poly are leafing up despite the cold, frosty weather so all that insulating has worked. I’ve left them alone in the hope I have seen the last of the sawflies/they don’t discover them. Guy Savoy is already in full leaf so I think it’s going to be a vigorous one.
I have lots of favourite photos, but the rose I have enjoyed photographing the most this year has been The Prince, as it’s so mutable in both form and colour, as these two show:
Happy New Year!
