  • Not sure if it fits your criteria @Mr. Vine Eye but I have Little Rambler, tiny flowers and leaves and has some small hips about the size of a yew berry. Mine is taking ages to get going as are my other two climbers planted 3 winters ago (so probably something at this end rather than the rose). Other than that I don't have anything bad to say about it.

Did a bit of rose admin yesterday, put two wooden trellis up for Parkdirektor Riggers which wasn't easy trying to get them levelish on a sloping fence with one pair of hands. PDR is in a shady position at its current height but I think will do much better once it has its head in good light.

Wanted to get out and do a few bits today but there is a very crunchy layer of snow all over, maybe later.

@Tack - thanks for Rambling Rosie suggestion, very pretty.

@Victoria Sponge - Little Rambler looks great thanks

@edhelka - have you got The Albrighton Rambler?

(I think Purple Skyliner might be too short, otherwise it’s one I’ve thought of getting before, or does it grow larger than suggested on the websites?)

Yes, DA filters do miss out a lot that I know are there. It's odd they haven't fixed that.

@Fire - I’ve contacted them about it before. Was it you Fire I discussed it with before, searching for Red roses? If you search by colour red only a handful come up, but search for ‘All Roses’ and then filter by red and it works.

Just remembered this morning, I can see nearly 200 climbers and ramblers now as opposed to 26 that were coming up yesterday!

Anyone know anything about the “Maid of Kent” rose?

@Mr. Vine Eye - Hi, yes, it was me you were discussing it with. I sent you a message yesterday.

Just a question. Why have I just seen on Facebook someone taking a rose cutting, dipping it in honey,  then putting it in half a potato, and then planting it. Have seen the potato thing, but never honey. 🤔

@Mr. Vine Eye I would say Purple Skyliner is a more vigorous rose than The Albrighton Rambler (but it doesn't necessarily mean larger final size).
Purple Skyliner is sold as a patio climber with size of 1.8x2.4 or 2.4x2.4 which is basically a full-size climber and I am quite sure it can achieve that. The Albrighton Rambler is sold as 3.75m which I think is overstated or would take really long to achieve. It does produce long canes (over 2m) but it doesn't produce many of them. My Albrighton Rambler at the moment covers a little bit over one fence panel, and it is a gappy coverage because the laterals are short. It has been in its spot for at least 4 but more probably 5 seasons.
From the internet - these are two Albrighton Ramblers. Bigger than mine but not exactly huge.
The Little Rambler is a very cute rose, I used to consider it and saw it in our garden centre, nice little blooms. But it also doesn't grow big.
