    @pitter-patter,

    I have moved house too so roses are all new except a few which i brought from my old garden. I am also enjoying this thread while my roses are settling in.

    Warm weather for the next few days, hopefully those of us waiting for our first rose to open might see some action 🤞

  • I've seen the use of tea bags on this thread but can not for the life of me find the pages it was on!
    I have loads of tea bags going out of date soon (my OH is due in August and has gone of tea during this pregnancy). They'll be fine to use wouldn't they?
    And what is the process for getting the leave ready? Do you have to pure hot water on them or can you just use them straight from the bag itself?
    Is the tea used as food/fertiliser?

    Also do the Rose's prefer Tetley or Yorkshire tea?  :p

    @newbie77, I can only tell you what I am doing, not what is correct as I have no idea!

    I am using Levington Tomorite, a concentrated tomato liquid feed with added seaweed extract. It says to add 20ml to 4.5 litres and use that for two outdoor tomato plants. I add 20ml to a 12 litre can and use for two roses, fortnightly. The alternate week they get a similarly weak all purpose liquid feed. I call this ‘Sunday breakfast’ - doing it the same day helps me to remember. I will stop when the first flush is over and then start again when they start their second. I don’t want to overfeed or push them too hard, especially here where it can get very hot as it might stress them too much.

    ..tomato food is good as an inbetween feed... roses need potassium..

    @bradleywood32...  it has to be brewed... otherwise fresh tea leaves contain too much nitrogen, which is leached out in the brewing... so pour boiling water over the bags, let them stew for a bit, squeeze out, then carry on... [no need to add milk]..

    I had a touch of frost last night...

    Another ugly first, a tiny bloom on a tiny plant. Hard to photograph, it has pink petals with dark pink/red reverse and shading, the light parts reflect light and create harsh contrasts. Hopefully, this will get better with bigger blooms and larger plant (allowing me to find a good angle). The blooms should age to darker (red) colour.

  • @Songbird-1 I'll have to have words... if I can find him. I painted the fence last year so it might covered now

    @Marlorena this I'd throw information we got when we bought it. I found the card whilst looking for a pot that I was adamant I had but never found

    @bradleywood32 thanks Bradley.. I don't know it...  perhaps it's one they imported, but I hope it does well for you in your garden..

    @BrixtonGardener  ..beautiful rose, and I'd say it was 'Alchymist', which flowers quite early in the season..

    @Marlorena It's one of the new ones, ordered from Trevor White last autumn. A weak grower so far, I hope it gets going when it is consistently warmer.
