@edhelka - Thank you, is it a good rose though (TAR?)

I'm liking the look of Maid of Kent

This is the description on DAs website:

"A very vigorous and healthy climbing rose. It bears small, light pink blooms which are produced very freely throughout the summer until the autumn. The stems are very pliable, so it is easy to train."

The pliable bit is important because it's got to be able to zig zag up a very narrow section of wall before it reaches the part where it can spread out a bit.

@Mr. Vine Eye They are pliable but probably not as much as you are used to from Malvern Hills. It gets blackspot. I inherited and like it but I am not sure I would buy it again in some new hypothetical garden :)

  • Thanks for the tips on plants to have with roses. Even just looking at the rose websites are exciting this time of year, I can’t wait for the new roses to get going.

Glad everyones pleased with cottage memories as well, I was delighted with my order.

Quick question - Ive got some Amazon vouchers I wanted to use and Styles have a shop on there.. I wanted lady of shallot but its not available there, they do however have Lady Emma Hamilton - it looks lovely too, how comparable are they would those of you with them say?

@JessicaS, mine are young plants so can't comment on size. I have read lady Emma should eventually be smaller than lady of shallot.

For me Lady Emma is more fragrant, though lady of shallot flowers more. I like lady Emma's reddish foliage and a bit more complex colour of flowers.

I don’t have Lady of Shallott but Lady Emma Hamilton is a lovely rose. The only downside is it can go splotchy during high humidity, but other than that it’s pretty perfect. Lovely foliage, lovely fragrance, very floriferous, and I have had very little disease problems. It has a nice sturdy shape as well. @JessicaS

While we were self isolating, some thieving git stole our polytunnel, shelving, seed trays etc. at the allotment.

Also took my potted Kew Gardens cuttings.

Lovely way to spend our first day out of isolation. Boys were with me and very upset.
