@Nollie Nowadays I am starting to consider the longevity of blooms an important factor in choosing my roses.. it’s really disappointing when the flowers don’t last long, I hate it when there’s a spell of rain where I don’t really venture out to my garden and some roses bloom and wither within the few days of rain.. and I never got to enjoy the flowers at all....
On a different note.. I know a few of us here grow the Country Parson this year.. I’m keen to have a light yellow DA.. and Vanessa Bell was my top choice before the Country Parson came out this year.. I wonder how they compare to each other..?
Could someone please enlighten me as to what's gone wrong with my Ballerina rose. The new buds it is producing are feeble and producing equally feeble, tiny white flowers...about half the size of what they were originally. It's been in the ground about 3-4 months, and has been regularly watered and fed. It's not the easiest thing to illustrate, but I've included a couple of pics to try and show the issue. It's been largely healthy, touch of BS but nothing major.
..that will right itself in next to no time @peteS ... it's just weather related...
Adrian, consider also 'Charlotte'... I gather the blooms last longer.. and suitable for pot culture..
To those growing Kew Gardens.. I wonder if you have noticed that it rarely sets hips, if at all.. I don't think I've ever seen any on my rose, they start to develop into tiny little hips, then quickly turn black.. I suspect the rose, in breeding terms, is a seed sterile triploid... pollen could be used but no seeds..
Very few of my roses set hips last year, but that's probably because they were new. I've noticed that Malvern Hills is starting to now. I'll have to check on Kew Gardens.
@Mr. Vine Eye The flower looks like GJ but I can see the cane behind it seems to be pretty thornless, which isn’t like GJ.. assuming the cane to the top left of the rose belongs to to this rose and not from a different plant.. does it smell really fragrant - of a typical old rose type?
on second look, the cane to the right of the picture appears to be thorny and is in keeping with GJ..
I really like that Pelargonium @Nollie. It's not one I've come across before.
I've been looking for a pot for my new climber and have seen this one. It's 46cm diameter, 57.7cm high and 55L. Do you think this is too narrow at the bottom.
@Tack thanks for that. We have The Range just up the road from us and didn't see any elho pots there. Will have to have another look. I do have 2 elhos that are a similar size on wheels at the front of the house that I got from a different place and are almost as wide at the bottom than the top. Will have a look tomorrow and see what I can find.
@Omori the colour on your LEH is amazing. I can't wait to get my bare root.

Is this Gertrude Jekyll?

I’m terrible at identifying roses..
