Love that serried row of roses @Tack.

I guess differences in soil, aspect, climate, sun exposure would account for the colour variation of our respective Heidi Klums. There is a fair bit of that in the photos on HMF, plus some only seem to get solitary blooms while others show lots of packed clusters - that might be related to plant maturity. Clearly not all AR roses are bad, I’m really pleased with Heidi and RdeR.

I agree with everyone else, @Nollie these are dead roots. There would be much more fibrous roots if it was healthy and alive. My Midnight Blue died like that (my mistake, too long storage in a shed) and when I finally gave up and dug it out, there were no new fibrous roots.
@Katsa Growing well but getting blackspot, like almost everything else here.

Thank you everyone for those nice comments, I do get a lot of pleasure from my soldiers :D. They were in a 2 line staggered formation but since the sun got lower the southerly ones were shading the northerly ones!
@poppyfield64. I really like my Ebb Tide and the colour draws everyone to it, so I do hope it does well for you.

If I can ask a quick question, has anyone grown the rose Sugar Moon? I am still in my quest for a beautiful white rose. I have dug up and over a largeish section of what was lawn, so now have a new bed which gets full sun- increasing my options. :)
  • Thanks @Tack I'm sure I will.  I had it up on my screen on Sunday and my husband commented that it was a cool looking rose.  That was enough for me to hit the checkout button lol.

@sarinka I have Desdemona.  She isn't a pure white as it has pink tinges in the buds and when first opening but once open fully that disappears.  Her fragrance is that good that even people walking past the house comment.  I also have A Whiter Shade of Pale but again has that pink tinge but lovely fragrance.

Others may have more pure whites that they could suggest.

@sarinka, I have desdemona and Vanessa bell. Desdemona is like my almost white rose for pink/purple bed and Vanessa bell is my almost white rose in Yellow/apricot/orange border. When weather is cool and shade Vanessa bell is cream but once opened bloom, it is almost cream white.

I also have susan williams that is pure white and fragrant but flowers are so small and not impressive at all. I dont like her and dont even feel like deadheading.

When I visited a garden, I liked Kew Garden and Clair Austin, but dont have those in my garden.

@sarinka You wanted a white rose for shade, right? So do you now want something for full sun? Healthy? Fragrant? Double or can it have fewer petals?
