@celcius_kkw I’ve tried many, many rose perfumes...have yet to find one that smells like true rose, it must be a difficult fragrance to capture. That being said, I’ve found Body Shop’s British Rose, and Acqua di Parma Rosa Nobile, to be nice rose fragrances. Another rose one, Stella by Stella McCartney.
ETA Just remembered another nice one...Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet.
Celcius, hello, yes today I took a picture of the walk way where Etoile de Holland is at the same time. There are some more buds to come out soon. It here is the whole plant. As you can see it’s about 10 ft. Valerie as
@Omori@Ffoxglove I’ve got to take note of all these recommendations! I still can’t get over the fact that David Austin, being the quintessential breeder of fragrant English Roses have failed to capture their roses’ beautiful fragrance in a bottle.. but I guess I’ve made my point loud and clear by now ha!
@valerieroberts that’s huge! Marlorena was right when she warned me it’s a bit of a beast.. how long have you had her for?
Yes, it’s a bit of a beast but I would love it to be more so. My soil is so sandy and hot that roses are unhappy unless manure and mulched. I don’t know how to prune it to make it look better. It’s got 9 more buds to come with this flush. Perhaps Marlorena could tell me how to do it - Please, Here it is from another perspective. Been there for 6 years probably. Valerie
Looks like Astronomia (Sweet Pretty), a floribunda rose from Meilland, will be next to flower of my new roses, pretty, pointed buds:
Here is how it will hopefully look when in full bloom (not my photo) with unusual, more pink centres:
Not scented, this one. Mostly I have to prioritise heat tolerance and disease resistance in my hot and often humid climate. Having, like you, learnt the hard way @Daniel Rutherford
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Does anyone here use Uncle Tom’s rose tonic? It claims to be something that every professional rose grower uses.. it’s just pure potassium.. which is found in general purpose fertiliser anyway and in higher ratio in tomatoe feed.. it’s also incredibly expensive when tomatoe feed/ordinary high potash feed costs only a fraction. Is it worth it??

You can see it’s come from the same spot as the one last year, I’ve managed to cut it closer again to the base though this time.
It made a very effective long handled aphid brush though! 😁
