Mmm, Heathcliff would look good in my new purple/pink rose bed, @Daniel Rutherford. But I am spoilt for choice already to fill the remaining slots!!
I have a ‘is this normal’ question...
This is a new rose called Soul (Tantau, ‘nostalgic shrub rose’ parentage not stated). It’s being incredibly slow, has one tiny bud on it nowhere near opening. All other shoots look fine but this one looks a bit crazy. Is this a form of proliferation or am I just in for a bumper display when it finally decides to do something?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
A cloudy cold day here, with light drizzle. Only enough to wet the leaves. Hopefully, there will be some rain on Thursday or Friday.
I have several roses which I expect to bloom tomorrow and on Wednesday, with the warm weather ahead (although comparing the weather forecast for us and for south or east makes me question why I live where I live).
Some photos, for now. The climber/Albrighton Rambler
Gertrude Jekyll
And from the weekend, Ebb Tide... I wish it were more purple, it's usually closer to burgundy red here.
Souvenir de St. Annes
James Veitch ready to open... unless it balls in this weather
Yes that multiple shoot is very odd, @Lizzie27, as you say, will have to wait and see! Perhaps it is normal, I found this photo on Tantau’s website and it does look a bit of a hydra:
I know it’s not what you want it to be, but I really like the burgundy colour of Ebb Tide, @edhelka. How is it’s disease resistance with you?

@Nollie I would like it too, I just hate how everything that is supposed to be purple end up closer to red (with Minerva being the only exception). I have Blackberry Nip opening right now - red (should be mauve or magenta). James Veitch bud above is also redder than it should be (but I wouldn't mind purple with red shading). I guess for you, it goes the opposite way, towards pink.
The disease resistance of Ebb Tide, I would say average or worse. I remember it defoliated in autumn. But it doesn't have the best position and it isn't the strongest plant so I cut it some slack. The fragrance is good.
I too am drawn to anything that says it’s purple, but as you say, edhelka, they rarely are, but burgundy just happens to suit my new bed’s colour scheme. Diamond Eyes is properly purple, but only small blooms so would get lost in most borders. Better in a pot, really, but I’m using it as an edging rose. Weeks say Ebb Tide gets ‘better with establishment‘ so maybe needs a couple of more years...

Coreopsis Early sunrise: This survived winter but looked really straggly, so I gave it quite a harsh cut back and it's bushing out nicely now and starting to flower.
Wildflower patch:
An Erysimum devouring a (self seeded) Marguerite Daisy! Chomp chomp. But it's doing a great job being a food source for so many different bees at the moment!
Sage (salvia officinalis)
This is my herb and things that like dry soil area. Three types of lavendar, thyme, a couple of cistus bought from Aldi in autumn (which I'll move a bit in autumn as one is a larger type and there's space for it now at the back), sage, rosemary out of sight because it's a tiny one I grew from seed last year. Aster Monch a bit further away on the right.
It's not much but I'm starting to feel pleased with it. There's a lot of gaps still, but it's starting to fill in. Feel happy that a lot of it is coming from my own seed growing and cuttings/divisions too.

Thankyou.
I already have "for your eyes only" so presumed it was from a similar group.

Hopefully it wouldn't be long until we see it in full bloom!
