Mamma Mia has bloomed just before I head away for a few days. It's so not the colour I wanted or expected but it's lovely. Really like the flower shape and is smells lovely.
Yesterday's heat clearly gave it a boost to flower but I wonder if this has made it less orange too.
White meilove. The picture doesn't capture the colour well, it's a pretty cream. Lovely sweet smell and good health and bloom form. The only down side is its slow to mount a reblooming.
@AlliumPurpleSensation, yes heat will fade blooms, mine are always a stronger colour in cooler temps. Some parts of the UK are hotter than here at the moment.

Yes we've been at about 31 degrees for the last week!
Ha, yes you can forgive that furry face almost anything @micmarg, apart from peeing on the roses perhaps. Bill is very sweet and affectionate for a Spanish Water Dog - they can have a rather stroppy temperament. His one-eyed Great Auntie Sandra is more typically fierce, despite the fluffy look - try to pet her and she will have your hand off:
Right, enough of the cute pet photos!

'Chandos Beauty' is such a beautiful rose, living up to its name.. scent is divine, foliage is large, glossy and heathy in the main.. an untypical hybrid tea, the rose can grow quite large and needs supporting, as the canes can be floppy...
..I sometimes remove the guard petals, as they often do in floristry, as they can discolour in wet or damp weather.. but not so much lately as it's been so dry here..
...some slight discolouration of a guard petal but not enough to remove.. I probably have more pictures of Chandos Beauty on my computer than any other rose..
I have several roses which I regard as 'finds' this year.. i.e. they will not be annuals for me, but keepers and I have been taken by surprise by them in many ways, to make these roses rather special, when I didn't know anything about them initially..
One such is 'Florence Ducher' [ex-Roseraie Ducher, France]... ..a modern Bourbon, not as scented as the parents but decent enough, has been blooming since late June non-stop.. I removed it from the ground due to rose replant disease and it has thrived in a pot, hence the late start to flowering.. The foliage is 100 percent healthy, not a trace of disease, and to top it all, it is virtually thornless..
A short climber type,... needs an obelisk or somesuch in due course..
..showing the healthy foliage on thornless canes...
I’ve just caught up with the last six pages of posts... phew!
I saw a discussion comparing LEH, LOS and RD..
I happen to have all 3 of them. From a container gardener point of view I think RD wins by a mile.. like Marlorena pointed out it stays short and shrubby and simply thrives in a pot. lots of blooms and repeat flower well in flushes, it has a delightful medium strength scent - I would say mixture of tea and sweet. The blooms tolerate the elements very well, never balls and easily last for up to a week. I also saw the snippet from Windsor garden.. my RD genuinely flowers like that.. they bloom in one go and the whole plant would be covered in flowers. Quite a spectacle!
LOS is born to be a giant.. and having had her for two years I don’t think she’s meant for the pots.. I guess one could try a much larger pot but I just don’t have the space anymore.. I also find the blooms very susceptible to rain damage - and they only last for 3 days or so.. the petals very quickly become ‘loose’ and the blooms just look dishevelled to me.. I prefer neatly arranged petals. Scent wise.. it’s more tea in character than RD, also medium strength. But the scent quickly turns towards stale tea as the bloom degenerates. Some of the blooms don’t even last longer than a day.. remember when we had that rainy spell before.. some of the buds bloomed and either balled or scattered before I could even have a chance to enjoy them..
And lastly, LEH. The strongest perfume of all three. I would say it’s reasonably happy in its pot but does not thrive to the extent like RD does. The blooms also do not last long for me.. it’s in the same category as LOS for me. I also noticed that it doesn’t bloom in one go.. so I’ve been having sporadic blooms throughout this season so far, but when I do get to hold the rare fresh bloom to my nose, the scent is unmistakably divine.
On a different note.. my Desdemona is still doing its raggedy look..
I mean he must be just look at that face, your eyes deceived you @Nollie
Florence Ducher looks like a great discovery Marlorena
I really fancy a button centre, thinking RdR will fulfil that need but Eglantyne is lovely @Omori as are your other 3 there.
I'd not come across White Meilove or MamaMia, very nice too.
Such a hot place at ours this week. Over 33 now 36 yesterday. Watering so much every night. Early morning rose check showed Blush Noisette looking ok planted (3ft now, has been really happy in a smallish pot).
I cannot fault Charles Darwin for how it smells and keeps on flowering. My husband was amused by the concept of shovel pruning but doesn't want me to do that to CD because of the scent. From a distance it looks cream so maybe I can find a spot. Diamond Eyes, Royal William St Boniface and Queen Elizabeth in view.Wollerton OH starting again
QEElina gets scorched petals on her huge blooms so is in the shade
