..if anyone likes Penstemons I recommend the Pensham series... maybe not for the far north... they flower very early with the roses, and repeat later on too.. ..this is Westmnster Belle, just starting... I find it goes really well with 'Desdemona' roses as their bloom periods coincide..
@edhelka It's certainly looks like the amridge rose and scent description, is not to dissimilar. The major difference is size. The rose that I have can get very big for a shrub, to the extent where it wants to climb. It's a mystery
@Jason-3 I agree, the size complicates it. But the foliage and the overall habit doesn't look like any of their climbers. Maybe Crown Princess Margareta, just because there isn't anything else big enough and similar enough but I don't know. The fragrance and the buds would be correct for CPM.
@Marlorena I love Penstemons, the one I have from the Pensham series is Czar. I also added Stapleford Gem (known also as Sour Grapes I believe), and Raven.
This is Czar from last year, still a ways off flowering this year:
..they say it V-eye in the film, which is how I say it too... I wouldn't have thought of V-ee actually but I can see what you mean.. ..I like the way Austins breeders code is AUSegdon, as Egdon Heath is where the action takes place...

‘You-stay-sha’ or ‘You-stay-she-a’
David Austin Jr said ‘You-stay-zee-a’
I’ll pick one and say it with confidence!
I like Penstemon - I have Schoenholzeri (Firebird), Raven and Arctic Fox.
Arctic Fox has flower buds developing already. Just checked, that is a Pensham one!
I've had most of the others but I don't know Arctic Fox.
I actually say you-stay-seea rather than shia... but it may not be correct.. I just find it easier ...
...you know, it's so darn cold outside, I think it could snow.. although I've just had a short sharp shower..of rain..
