@Omori Yeah.. I’ll give it a go. I noted Edhelka also mentioned it performed well in coastal wind..

@celcius_kkw I was talking about pure rugosas (alba) or usual hybrids (Hansa), I am not sure if Wild Edric is as tough as they are but probably worth trying. Another very tough group are hybrid spinosissimas, I would love something like 'Stanwell Perpetual' but smaller. There are DAs 'Sir Walter Scott' and the newest 'Country Parson'.

@peteS i didn't realize it was open again! Many of the roses I'm interested in seem to be available from them so any experience with them would be gratefully received.

I absolutely love having flowers in the house. I didn't realize this until quite recently and am now shaping my garden to focus on flowers for scent and cutting. Im trying to ensure that it's as wildlife friendly as possible too.

So, what's your favourite rose to cut and brin into the house?

I don't have one at present, but have a Shirley Temple peony with some salvia, lavender and nemesia in a vase on my bedside table. It smells amazing and is a brilliant way to walk up.

@Omori We've had so many hailstorms today! Luckily nothing apart from boule de neige is in flower... Im kinda scared of HTs. They always have the reputation of being fussy, but they do look beautiful. And yours looks stunning. Beautiful colour... Also you say room currently? Love to know what other flowers you have dotted about the place 😄

@Katsa I know what you mean, but really they're no different than any other rose. I prune mine back pretty hard each year and other than that, treat them the same as all of the others. I used to be firmly against HTs because of course you always see them the same way...very formal, fussy, bit barren looking. It doesn't have to be that way though.

I have Jude the Obscure which literally just fell to pieces  :D Lady Emma H, Olivia RA, Deep Secret, Just Joey.

Gorgeous @edhelka I like bud vases as well.
  • Not sure if this is the right place for a post but this mature American Pillar sends out long shoots which can’t be tied in anywhere, is the idea just to leave these for more flowers next year - or can I cut them to contain it to the size I have it?

Those bulb vases are lovely. I'd never heard of them @edhelka. I'm defintiely going to buy some as I'm currently using wine glasses. I also love walking around my garden and enjoying the flowers in situ. I love watching hover flies and bees using my garden as their food source. I'm an environmental law lecturer and I find having flowers and greenery around me while I'm working really helps me process my thoughts and deelop my ideas. I try to go outside as much as I can when working, but having some fresh flowers around the house really helps.

@Omori Great to hear that HTs don't have to be so fussy - I've just bought three: Raymond Blanc, Proper Job (aka Gospel) and pure poetry (aka Johann Wolfgang von Goethe). They're all more 'bushy' than HTs, so I'm hoping they'll not look to out of place. Also, I've never really pruned rose bushes before so I'm slightly apprehensive!
