...tell your Facebook friend they have 'Darcey Bussell'...
I already have, that was my first thought actually. Although they say it doesn’t look like the other two Darcey’s that she already has. She also mentioned that it has a very strong scent - knockout when she opened the box - which doesn’t sound like Darcey Bussell.
shes accepted that it’s not a Munstead though and is going to email the seller - I sent a better photo of the stems from me to use in the email (like you did for me and my grass!) Apparently ordered from somewhere in Holland (they’re in Belgium)
It was on one of the Facebook rose groups. Got into an exchange with someone else who was unhelpfully insistent that this was a Munstead Wood, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Ohh! While I’m on the subject, I emailed Claire Austin (not personally) again with an updated photo of the “calamagrostis” and they’re sending me a replacement.
I actually quite like the accidental grass! Looks lovely behind Vanessa Bell.
You have quite a collection Daniel... I thought it was only me that collected roses... where are you going to put them all? oh silly question, we don't care about that sort of thing...
@Marlorena I am really running out of space now tho so will have to stop buying so many haha. I really don’t understand how I have got so addicted but I suppose I have to feed the addiction!!
@edhelka Thankyou, I think Maybe I’m starting to to like roses a bit too much🤣 My scepter’d isle will have been planted 2 years ago and has just grew so strongly since then. The bit on the picture where it’s planted is actually east facing and only gets sun till around 12. The soil is really strong clay but I dug it a bit and added a little manure and grit but not loads so not ideal but actually all roses in their have been so quick to grow therefore must be perfect conditions for most!!
I like your border with the scabious and the peony, I think it's pretty, @edhelka
Your Poet's Wife looks very yellow @Daniel Rutherford I hope mine is that colour when it grows up. Your greenhouse looks fab, I'd like to think you get hit with the perfume on entry.
It's hammering down here, which I'm pleased about. I've collected about 1000 litres of water so far but the pond is still very low. I might go through my bare root shopping list again (I rewrote it last week) and double check spaces for my four currently in pots.
My first ever DA roses have opened during this weather, but I don't know if they count as atypical/funky first flower so will see how they progress.
I assume DA will be working on a new & improved Munstead Wood type, less thorny and floppy, I hope! Such fabulous colour and scent though, the flowers themselves are truly special.
