@Omori We have a gap in clouds at the moment. It was bad in the morning and more rain is expected at night. I did some tidying, filling two buckets with deadheaded or flopped plants but I guess there will be more tomorrow. Weeds grow and grass needs cutting.
This is my Ena Harkness, under Tidal Wave petunias and over Royal Bumble salvias. Even though I planted her about seven years ago I have learnt that I have to water Ena every week if there is no rain. I don't think I would have put in a rose if I had known there was no let up in watering all these years later. She is between two doorsteps, beside a path and by a wall, so she thinks she is a pot. No watering doesn't kill the plant but there are few roses. I always worry about having too much red, front and back, inside and outside. But when I see this photo, the blocks of red are very satisfying - it has some kind of serotonin kick to it for me. Odd, but there we are. (I have a theory about colour receptor cells in the eyes).
This is my 1st cosmos from seeds (packet shows white with a pink edge... good that I don't care). It has to be the easiest plant to grow. 'Gentle Hermione' behind.
'Silas Marner', 'Gabriel Oak' behind looking almost purple.
@Fire Is that’s why you’re username is the way it is..? With your love for the colour red? 😉 I also think the amount of red you have at the front door looks really good with the brickwork behind it, not overpowering at all.
@Omori It’s been really windy here too.. with showers intermittently throughout the day. And it’s cold too. I guess the plants could do with a break from that mega heat wave earlier this week though.
I was browsing the endless rose photos that I’ve taken lately and found this taken at the beginning of June - my possible floribunda. Intensely fragrant. The only unknown rose on my balcony but also one of the best performers.. huge blooms too.
Most of my roses have had their first flush - this yellow rose was the first to bloom and it’s started to produce its second flush now.. the rest are still visibly behind.
@celcius_kkw That yellow rose is lovely AND intensely fragrant. On the one hand I'm glad you can't name it on the other noooooo I want.
Very windy with light showers regularly here. The ground is frustratingly dry and I thought the roses would hate the weather. My disappointing Claire Austin is rallying, unlike the poor leaves of Dr Ruppel clematis
My second Bathseba flower, plant is growing well, relatively few buds.
The sun went in and then came out on my first high-vis Alexander bloom. Bought because of the discussion on here.

Hi, no. Back in the day, I had another name on the forum, Firefly, I think, and there was another user with almost the same name. She caused loads of trouble and everyone thought it was me - so I simplified the name down to make the distiction between us clearer. It's a bit like the purples - there is a Purple Allium, Purple Rose, Purple Rain Purple Poppy and many more purple people on the forum. I get them mixed up.
@edhelka Reds are a blasted nightmare to combine. I stay away from pinks, purples and oranges (which covers most of plant life). I have gone for whites, creams, golds and some splashes of blue. I'm glad the reds still feel pleasing en mass for me, because the choice would have caused me a lot of trouble for nothing. But it's still giving me a kick.
@Tack All I remember was getting it from dobbies.. it was one of the very first three roses I ever bought. Feels like ages ago.. even if it was just last year.
@Fire I’m hoping that those fleece blankets would protect my toms.. the sort of strong wind I get up here will certainly knock them off the vines if I don’t do something about it.. good thing is they come with an elastic fastener at the bottom so I can secure it well without them getting blown away altogether..
