..yes it's very popular.. mind you, this Spring it would probably be looking fantastic if you've not had much rain, like me... I mean, parts of my garden look as though it's not rained since the First World War...
@celcius_kkw !!! roses, wine and grilled meat... what to say. Heaven.
Lot of work to do today, before the cold weather comes. Photographing everything, of course, while it's still there. Cutting some blooms for the house. Deadheading. Cutting grass which I let grow longer in dry weather. Fingers crossed we will see some rain and not only dry winds.
@newbie77, yes leaf cutter bees. They take the odd nibble out of other rose foliage but for some reason find Burgundy Ice irresistible!
@Fire most of my dark/red roses go fuschia pink in hot weather so maybe that’s what you are seeing. Barkarole looks very promising.
Here is another compare and contrast...
Earlier shots of The Prince, about a month ago - a spindly plant with large, single weak-necked blooms - but in a gorgeous smoky burgundy colour:
The next bloom was a bit brighter with raspberry highlights:
Now developing smaller but stronger cluster blooms in a less dramatic colour:
I cut to the ground two thin, useless canes around the time the first photo was taken and the thickest shown below is a new one. Not a bushy plant, think it wants to be a climber and would look better trained that way. It grew a whole new coat of foliage, the first leaves were severely wind damaged. I will move it to the other side of the front door where it is a bit more sheltered and there is more wall space to fix wires:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Marlorena this is the second year of Du petite prince you recommended as a mauve rose. As you said last year it would get stronger, enough for cutting and it has. The third photo colour is facing south, the second east. The realistic colour of my rose is a photo taken pointing north, this first one. It’s actually a bit duller mauve than the photo, but close. Obviously rubbish camera.Thank you Valerie
