I hope your surgery is successful, @Fire, and you keep clear of Covid too...
We did a lot of Covid tests while we were away, as we were visiting vulnerable relatives. All negative, thankfully, though I've come home with a throat infection courtesy of our lovely snotty grandsons
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
@pansyface - we have a book called "Do-it-yourself brain surgery and other home skills". We especially liked the section entitled "Crochet your own suspension bridge"...

Does anyone know about covid anti viral tablets like Molnupiravir? I don't hear about anti virals much.
It was found that I had had glandular fever probably decades before it was discovered. I took prescribed retrovirals fairly recently and it was life changing.
I had Covid before it was recognised as an epidemic. I still have residual side effects, 3 years later, loss of taste for some things, tiredness, aches, and pains etc. I didn't realize I'd had Covid, just felt ill for about 6 weeks, until I heard of the side effects and put two and two together as to why I was still struggling with what I thought was age. When I had my first Covid jab I mentioned to the nurse how ill I had been before the shutdown, between Christmas and the New Year and she said thousands of people were saying the same thing.
For my autumn top-up, I received 4 letters, 2 sets of duplicates, postage, informing me I was eligible for the flu and Covid vaccinations. When I tried to book them I was told I could not have them together. I made 2 separate appointments for a Sat. and a Sunday at two different locations. Trotted off on Sat. where I was asked if I would like both done there and then. I said, "Yes please". Later I read somewhere that some surgeries were refusing to do the 2 together because they get paid for each individual vaccination, doing them together counts as one vaccination, not two. I have no idea how true that is. I was so impressed with the efficiency of the Hub where I went I shall use them again. There was no one in a queue, in the waiting room, or corridors. The car park had plenty of spaces and all the volunteers and staff were really friendly and helpful. A pleasure to visit them.
When it was announced last Thursday that Covid boosters had been opened up to the over 50's there was such a rush to get booked in I ended up taking an appointment in a nearby village pharmacy (rather than the even-more-local venues I'd visited previously where the slots were already taken). That village was Prestbury. The pharmacy was great & everybody was lovely & efficient. But parking up & walking through the village I felt decidedly under-dressed and a tad embarrassed to park my 12-year-old motor on the main street. It is one of the most expensive places to live in England attracting the likes of Wayne Rooney, Peter Crouch, Robby Savage, Andrew Flintoff, Paddy McGuiness & Noddy Holder.
But like Joyce, my wife was offered her Covid jab when she went for the Flu one.

OH has now had his booster and they didn't offer to do the flu jab at the same time, sadly. They did tell him he should have it though! I'm going to the same pharmacy next week so I expect I'll have the same experience.
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
today I was offered a booster (I'm 50 and in 'vulnerable health').
I am having a PET scan for cancer inflammation in first week of Nov. I wonder if it's better to wait to have the jab after the scans, in case the body's immune system jumps for a few days in response the jab. Anyone have thoughts or evidence on this? Probably best not to have both in the same week.... (?)
@Lyn Interesting, your comment about running out of flu vaccine. My sister-in-law went for hers on Tuesday morning and the pharmacist said she was lucky as they only had 10 doses delivered and they are fully booked to the end of Thursday. Hopefully more will arrive.
