Have I got this right? Shopworkers don't have to isolate. Shop customers don't have to wear a mask.
Yes! Basically you have an app (that you don't have to have) telling you to do something that you don't have to do. Why so many still have the app is beyond me!
Because you should be doing it? The reason the numbers are going up rapidly (although looking at the numbers over the past few days, we may have hit the pre-Freedom Day peak) is because people aren't doing these things any more.
Is that 'true' as the app works as a range limiter in a fashion (it doesn't adjust the range, just detects it)? I thought the app worked to the following chart - so even though BT works over a greater distance the BT detects, by the strength of the signal, a rough distance and presumably ignores stuff over circa 4m
.
@SteveTu How the app is coded to use Bluetooth I have no idea, but as it uses your Bluetooth connection those are the ranges that a Bluetooth device can in theory use depending on which Bluetooth standard its using. In fact the range is even greater than I stated according to the body that sets the standard it can be up to a kilometre.
If the app is coded to detect a range of 2 meters I have no idea how they would do that. It may be possible, but you would need a programmer to answer that question which I'm not.

I would guess that it's based on a handshake within the BT protocol and the strength of the signal during that time. I code, but I have never dealt with BT.
@steveTu, I think they are the lateral flow ones, as the testing bit is like a pregnancy test - the box doesn't actually say. I believe the PCR ones are sent to a testing lab and you are then notified of the result.
I hope the app also takes into account whether there's a wall between the two people (don't know whether bluetooth can "see" through walls). Those of us who live in a semi or terraced house could have our phones within 2m or 4m of the phones of the people next door while we're all in our houses. Maybe I'll keep my phone well away from the party wall!

PCR tests IME involve having a large cotton bud shoved up your nostril so deep it hurts and then the swab is sent to a lab for analysis. They then mail or text the results straight to you - well that's the way the French and Belgians do it anyway.
Apparently someone has designed a device to protect your ears form all the media and political BS about Covid and, presumably, other matters.

"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
The reaction from the public is going to be - delete the app, disable it or ignore it. I have heard people are pretending to scan QR codes or leaving false details etc too.
My daughter and her family use those tests, Big cotton bud tickle the tonsils 3 times them shove it up the nose. i asked her if it made her feel sick, she said yes, I heave my guts up every time🤢🤮

I'm only going to the shop to get essentials.
I can't take any more time off to look after my healthy -looking children
I am too important to isolate
The system is in chaos. I'll just wade through it and carry on with my life.
I will give in to peer/ family pressure to mix even though I don't feel safe.
I feel fine.
Isolation is for the masses so that the privileged can carry on with their normal lives.
