  • I wonder that some of you got AZ as booster. We got our booster invitation and were told at the vaccination centre that only Pfizer is allowed as booster vaccine. I don’t feel comfortable at all with Pfizer BionTech, and the only reason we took it was that we have to fly to Germany in 5 weeks time. I haven’t seen my parents for two years. I feel awful knowing that I only took it for that reason. I would gave delighted if we had AZ. At the vaccination centre they told us that AZ was not licensed as booster in the UK.

  • I think it says the same on the government website.
  • Yes, but they didn't accept our reasons when we asked. We had to take this mRNA Aldi version. We had two attempts yesterday to get AZ, no such luck.

No idea why some *experts* on here have decided they know which is the best vaccine. Real experts don’t know.

  • An immunologist who sounded authoritative on a R4 news/current affairs type programme last week said that technically the third dose for the 50+ and vulnerable groups isn’t an actual ‘booster’ … it’s a ‘third dose’ needed because of vulnerability …. he said ‘Boosters’ will follow next year and be for everyone.  He deplored the misuse of terminology saying it is confusing people.
He then went on to talk about ‘which vaccines and when’ … but I can’t remember what he said about that.

Dove, sounds like that immunologist has further confused me! I certainly understood that the ‘booster’ is a booster for over 50s etc, but that there is a third dose for the very vulnerable, which could and should have been given 8 weeks after their second dose.

@Ergates … wish I could remember his name … it was probably on the Today Prog.

I’m just going to go along when I’m told,? take what I’m given and not worry about it. Anyone with any sort of medical qualification is more qualified than I am to know what they’re doing 😉

And me. OH said he was a bit worried that having a different vaccine for the third dose/booster might not work as well as having the same one. I said maybe having a different one will stimulate the immune system in a different way and make for stronger protection. I don't think anyone knows for certain yet but I'll have whatever is offered. Some of the ladies at my tai chi class have had Moderna for their booster, my parents both had a 3rd dose of Pfizer, so I think what you get depends what's available on the day. Our 6 months is up on 15th November so hopefully we'll be invited or be able to book soon after that.

You have to let the proper experts get on with this.
We have had at least 2 cases locally where people were not offered the booster of their choice.
Quite rightly they were told it was that or nothing, but now they are kicking up a stink.
I don't care whether I get the same vaccine again, just give me something, ASAP.

Exactly @punkdoc ! I think everyone I know has taken whichever vaccine they were offered, or plans to.
