It's not necessarily doing all the right things that prevents problems tho' . My BP was perfect all my life ... until my thyroid packed up Losing weight, eating the right things, exercising ... none of that seems to make a difference to my BP ... the only thing that works is the right medication 🙏

I had undiagnosed hyperthyroidism for some time . Being female, my symptoms were blamed on the menopause. One bright spark prescribed anti depressants. I thought I was going mad. Eventually had a melt down in front of a doctor who knew what she was doing and I got treatment. I don't know how they all missed it - my symptoms were textbook.

An identical experience B3, except I'm hypothyroid ... and I started having symptoms aged about 40 ... 'It's your age' said the doctors ... all except for one I consulted about an injury when I was visiting friends. He was Dutch and he looked at me and said 'Have you had your thyroid checked? When you get home ask them to check your thyroid levels ... you look hypothyroid." When I got home I asked my GP who said I was fine it was my age (again). Eventually I stopped going to the doctor with symptoms ... eventually I was so ill I went to the GP practice and found my GP had left ... I saw a new one ... she looked at me, took the blood tests ... then she phoned me at work the next day and asked me to call in on my way home from work ... I was so ill she signed me off work for a month and started me on very very low doses of thyroxine ... it took months to build up to a level where my readings were within the realms of normal. That was 20 years ago and I'm relatively ok now but the damage done to my joints will never be repaired

My eyes bulge slightly. That's all I'm aware of so it looks like I was luckier than you. I eventually had my thyroid nuked. Never did understand how the radioactive iodine knew where to go . The plus was it got me out of going to a family do that I didn't fancy and all prescriptions were free. I don't think it killed the thyroid completely because my husband is on a higher dose than me.
Well done. Feels good doesn't it? Mine's been like that for years now and OH's has come down loads since he retired.
Thanks Obelixx, yes it does feel good.
Well done to you too. Mines been like that for many years as well its just been 5 years since I last had my BP taken and over the last 18 months I've had to reduce my weekly run mileage from 30 miles a week to approx 15 because of my hip pain (hence the steroid jab soon) so thought it wouldn't be as good as it used to be. It seems less mileage is just as beneficial failing that there's always the bike
Your OH's retirement will sure help with stress which as we all know is not good for you in normal day to day situations.

Just been for my flu jab and the nurse told me I am eligible for the pneumonia vaccine too which could be a very big deal if Covid comes my way. I am a bit embarrassed to say I hadn't realised there was a pneumonia vaccine and it is a once in your life type. Apparently I should have been offered it last year but stocks were low so many missed out. Worth checking with your GP if you haven't been told.
You aren't alone in not knowing there is a pneumonia vaccine. I had a call from my surgery earlier in the year, not long after Covid appeared, offering it to me. I thought it was an annual thing like the flu jab so initially was declining as I didn't want to put anything into my system which wasn't essential. When they explained it was a one off I did have it. Absolutely no side effects, not even any soreness of stiffness in the arm.
