Wonderful news about G, @Hostafan1, my mum had to wait for a year then she opted out of having it.
Edited to add.  That water garden near me is now open again under a different name, appointment only but should be nice.
which water garden? Might it be worth a visit in Spring?

Remember last year we were going to go but they shut down due to ill health ? Think it was called Rowdens then.   It’s called Tors now.

How worrying for @Pat E , that smoke looks too close for comfort.

Good news for @Hostafan1 's OH. Hope it goes smoothly.

That water garden is the opposite of my French garden, full of lovely plants that won't grow here.

After a stressful morning it all went OK yesterday. I just left the frozen beef in the oven for longer, the middle was very rare but that's how the French like it, one SIL said it was perfect. I had a more outside edge slice which was medium rare. But I forgot the bread, were supposed to have had baguettes for the first course, I could have asked someone to buy some on their way here but I forgot. I had 2 sliced loaves so we toasted it and they ate it all. I made a loaf in the breadmaker for last night. The French seem to eat vast amounts of bread without getting fat. The trifles went down very well. All the bananas and the bowlful of clémentines have disappeared.

The grandchildren had a good time. Present opening in the morning and running around the paddocks and garden in the afternoon. They went fishing in the paddock pond with bits of baling twine and got very muddy. I think the fish were in the imagination!

3 families left last night and Son 1, lovely French wife and three adorable granddaughters left after lunch.

Now I shall have a couple of days rest vegging out in front of the TV. Wonder if there is anything worth watching?

One thing I have noticed here @Busy-Lizzie is that they never serve butter with the bread basket in restaurants.  Portions in general are also much smaller than in Belgium and there they were generally bigger in Flanders than in Wallonia.

That smoke looks too close for comfort @Pat E.   I hope your OH is not too tired and doesn't go out and worry you again and that you both stay safe.

Have been for second knee jab this morning.   Much less fluid extracted first which is a good thing but still unpleasant while he does it.   He's good tho and clearly well practised.  Can't imagine a life where I spend my time sticking needles in knees all day tho.  Three days rest now while the gel settles so sewing for me and embroidery.   Need to do a gentle raid on the SM tomorrow too once we've decided what we fancy for NY dinner.  Feeling uninspired.

I hope everyone else is as organised as they need to be for tomorrow's festivities and that you and hubby are nice and warm now @Hostafan1 .

Here's Cosmos enjoying a warm from our wood burner last night

  • We had a cat that used to lie under the woodburner @Obelixx ... one day his fur got badly singed all along one side ... the smell was appalling 🥴

Life can't get much better, enjoyed a brisk walk along the beach in sunny Bournemouth with grandchildren plus dog and have just been handed a glass of pink fizz. Dinner is being cooked (and not by me!) and smells delish.

11 year old grandson has had a sudden growth spurt and is now taller than me! Much to his glee.

    Good evening.
Glad some good news for you Hosta - may it continue.

Just had my bubble and squeak supper - most delicious, served with a fried egg 😋
Slight whiff of fried sprouts in the house but hey-ho. Pud will be finishing off the Pavlova. Sore throat remains but I bought some of the strong Benzocaine lozenges, which work brilliantly.

No partying for me tomorrow, we will have a curry and a glass of something and that suits me fine.

My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • We managed a walk up the farm (mostly horse livery), while the sun had broken through. Had to do a quick trip to Wi*es (other DIY shops are available) this pm for a new light switch for the dining room. A bulb blew & it decided to take the switch with it it was a dimmer, we just bought a plain on off this time as we never used the dimmer function anyway, we decided less to go wrong. Will have to fit it tomorrow now as it was getting dark by the time we came back.

So glad your hubby is ok @Pat E we heard the bad news about another volunteer on national TV here. Stay safe both of you.

He’s home for a few days now. The fires are still going crazy. I opened the bedroom curtains last night since that window faces the area where the fires are still going. It was hard to stop watching and go to sleep.

The weather is causing problems all over the place. Victoria as well as us in southern NSW. We are hoping for rain, but it’ll probably bring lightning which is how these fires start. 😡

    temps are high still.
Night to all of you. Thanks for your thoughts.
