@Dovefromabove - sympathise about the exercise.Ā  Not doing doggy walkies is having a disatrous effect on my muscle tone and not just the legs.Ā  Ā Still, in 6 weeks' time or thereabouts I'll have had my 3 sessions of infiltartions and the knee will improve.Ā  Ā We'll see.Ā  OH's family is not good with cholesterol either but t'others haven't been clever about diet either and have all sorts of daily meds.Ā  OH takes the minimum dose of statins cos his GP would rather be safe than sorry.

  • Hello all.Ā  Warmer here today, and sunny...Ā  B) Ā

Been to the Big Smoke (Ennis, population 25,000) to re-register the car.Ā  Also bought some furry boot slippers to try to stave off any more chilblains, and visited a couple of (bigger-than-ours-in-Scariff) supermarkets for supplies.Ā  We understand the cost of living is 16% higher in Ireland than in UK; road tax, car import tax, VAT and car and home insurance cost a lot more, and so does most food (though not anything cow-related.Ā  Nor, surprisingly, Cadbury's drinking chocolate, which is also cheaper here...).Ā  Shoes also seem to be cheaper.Ā  And there's no water rate, after an attempt to introduce one recently resulted in Poll Tax-style protests.Ā  We pay for rubbish and recycling collection, but the equivalent of Council Tax is low - and there are useful benefits for anyone over 66, including a generous fuel allowance, free TV licence and free travel on public transport.

My grandmother had a blood test when aged 99.Ā  The doctor suggested she should switch to low-fat spread instead of butter on her bread... and was told in no uncertain terms that at her age, she was intending to eat exactly what she wanted.Ā Ā  :)Ā  (She lived to be 108.)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

I know I can feed my tv via the laptop, but can't remember how. I need to find a young person
Old(er) person here - you will probably need an HDMI cable and then figure out how to get the laptop to send the signal to the TV. It is usually one of the function keys along the top of the keyboard but it might also require the use of the Ctrl key as well. There may be an indescipherable hieroglyph on the relevant key. You might also need to set your browser to full screen mode which is usually function key F11.
HDMI cable purchased, ( advised by future Son in Law ) so I'll have a bit of a fiddle later. Thanks for the help.

Glad you're sorted @Hostafan1. I couldn't remember the name of the cable.
Swings and roundabouts, eh @Liriodendron? You'll be stocking up on drinking chocolate then...and shoes..
Good on your gran - I fully intend doing the sameĀ Ā  ;)
Katsu curry made and consumed. Early night for me as I have to take daughter to work at stupid o'clock in the morning.
Don't think we're to get a frost tomorrow so that helps. It's been raining this evening so the temp has gone up a little. Barely above freezing through the day today.

    Good evening.Ā
    I love a katsu curry - yum.Ā
Quite right Liri’s Grandmother!Ā My Grandmother, at 90, was informed she had low level diabetes which she should control with diet and she also refused on similar grounds. I’m sure I would do the same.Ā
Oh - get you with an HDMI lead Hosta!
    Hope you all ok.Ā

In a similar vein, my 87 year old FiL was told he should control his diabetes by diet and more exercise. Ā  He already walks a couple of miles every day......not bad for his age. Ā He is not the sort to stand up for himself, so made himself ill by dieting. Ā Got his blood sugar levels so low he kept falling over. Ā Ridiculous that a bit of common sense can’t be used when these ā€œgeneral guidelinesā€ are dished out.

Oh dear, seem to have started the day on a rant šŸ™„

A day of painting, gym and book club today ......best go have some brekkie so I’m ready to face the day šŸ„£šŸ„„

Morning chicky and those to come/afties Pat if you're there.
Rant away -Ā Ā I agree. I often think there's a need for a bit of commom sense in lots of areas.Ā
I'm already tired. Been awake since before 3am. I knew that would happenĀ  :/
Murky sort of day. Much prefer yesterday's, and the previous week's, frosty lows.

  • Good morning all 😊 ā˜•ļøĀ

There does seem to be a sort of ā€˜blame culture’ with dome conditions around from some (definitely not all) health professionals.Ā

Just because some instances of diabetes can be caused by poor lifestyle choices, it doesn’t mean that every case is a result of that.Ā

I was gaining weight while walking at least six miles a day and eating a low calorie-counted diet but was reduced to tears by a hospital doctor whose exact words were, ā€œThe trouble with people like you is that you do a bit of exercise and then go and eat pizza.ā€ Ā He insisted that I must be verging on developing Type 2 diabetes because I was obviously overeating.Ā

I made a formal complaint and received a formal apology and the doctor received some ā€˜training’. Ā

I was found to have a severely underactive thyroid and associated problems. I had various endocrine and metabolic tests which revealed that I was not pre-diabetic.Ā
