That all looks lovely to me @Lily Pilly.  Try and relax and enjoy as it as it is while you get well enough for the trip to Oz and you'll come back energised, full of vitamin D and raring to go in the garden next spring.

@Fairygirl we shall rake off patches of gravel and clear the weed suppressing fabric to make some beds which will get a whole load of horse muck and topsoil poured on before we plant it up.   Once the toms have been picked and we can clear the polytunnel I shall go into sowing mode and divisions and stuff.  I have photos from our visit to Beth Chatto's garden and her book to help us along.

  • Hello all.  :)

That must be so frustrating, Lily P.  But the garden structure is still there, and I think it still looks beautiful... I like your AA Milne quote, very relevant at the moment.  Talla must be a wonderful companion for you!  Best wishes for your full recovery, even if it takes longer than you want...  xx

Yesterday I made plum jam.  Today's is raspberry.  The freezer must be emptied by late October...

Hope Bonzo recovers very quickly, Obelixx.  And best wishes for the car, Dove!

Good luck with the freezer emptying and all the sorting out for the move @Liriodendron

The wasps got all my fruit this year😩

The birds get all our figs and most of our cherries.  They're welcome to the Mirabelles as they're so bland.   I have plans for a bird proof fruit cage and am nurturing a couple of nectarines, an apricot and a peach to plant in it along with raspberries, strawberries and a young fig I'm bringing along for us.

The birds can have the rest.   Very few wasps about but we do have two small nests and they're welcome to some fruit too.

  • Thanks, @Obelixx.

Have you tried mixing your Mirabelles with a really strong-flavoured plum like damsons, or wild plums?  That might make a less bland jam...

It’s a shame 😢  ... but it’s also a reward for all the aphids they eat earlier in the year. 😉

    Afternoon all.
I think we can be overly critical of our own gardens - yours is gorgeous @Lily Pilly, tamed or not. Pats for Talla - what a star.
Pats and cuddles for Bonzo  too.
Have a good day all - catch up later.

Late to the party, but LOVE your new border @Hostafan1 😍😍😍.   What is giving it the pops of white all along?

cosmos. I'm pleased with them. I think they may become regulars.

  • Yay!  The car is back and has been given a stern talking to ... she has to behave herself. 😬 The next money that gets spent on her will be her MOT in Oct/Nov and then she has to find a new home.
