That's a good idea, @Busy-Lizzie. The berries are very reliable... they'd look good in a wreath, I think.
Thank you for the good wishes, folks! The house is a pretty boring bungalow, but the garden will definitely not be boring when I've finished with it... it's currently a blank canvas, which is very exciting. It's on limestone, but there are pockets of neutral soil as well as the alkaline conditions I'd been expecting. High rainfall but well drained. Photos will be forthcoming...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Just saw your link AuntyR. I've got one [C. lacteus] along a fence. Very useful backdrop for other plants. I just hack bits off or tie them in where it suits. The birds never seem to take the berries either, so they stay over winter as a nice feature. I sometimes use pieces along window sills around candles etc at C*****mas with ivy and baubles. Is your current soil a bit more acid Liri? Nice to have a different challenge
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Popping in again to say hi from within clouds of brick dust. A huge void now exists where the back of our house used to be and we can't even see the garden as the windows are all boarded up!
Yes, @Fairygirl, the new garden will be very different from my current one, which has very acid soil and is on a steep NE slope... I'm looking forward to some new possibilities.

Good morning all 😊 ☕️ well, that was fun wasn’t it ... zapping the Spam ID app adverts. There was even an incorrect id of something totally unrelated as an edible herb!!! 🤮 🤬
The rain woke me a few times through the night ... that’ll fill the butts again ... now the sun is shining ... lots to do today ... some shopping to get chicken wings ... I’m making Dragon Chicken as one of my contributions to Sunday’s Garden Picnic.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Looking forward to seeing your new garden develop @Liriodendron ......have fun (🙄🤪) with the decorating .....exciting times 🏡
Last night’s garden lecture was an eye opener 😱. Not so much the exotics, but the explanation the nursery owner gave us of the rules that will come into force this December, which will make the export/import of plant material much more onerous/nigh on impossible. No more imports of Dutch plants, bigger market for local nurseries. Its all to stop the spread of things like xzyella (?sp). So probably shortages and higher prices in the short term, but a more vibrant uk nursery industry in the long term........you heard it hear first 😉
