Regions that keep risking drought recently (in Ireland and the north of England) should now be looking at how to better store their water resources. The south and east seem to have less problems because they are historically used to have high human water usage and low rainfall.
There is no point in wailing and moaning about hose pipe bans in the middle of a hot summer. It's good to consider water usage and storage, (river abstraction/health) across the year. The challenge is to adapt national water infrastructure until it's fit for purpose, and keep the profile of these projects high, even when drought isn't in the news.
Yes, but January and February were dry. Also, I am on the southern tip, near Ventnor and it sounds silly, on such a little island, but we get less rain than the northern side of the downs!!!
I'm sure there are great variations and micro climates within each region, sure. But if other areas close by get significant rain fall, then aspects like reservoir and ground water stocks should be ok for the duration.
