"For the North East Area as a whole this month was the 5th driest January in a 131 year record."
I was SO happy at the weekend when it started raining. It's been doing so pretty much non-stop since Saturday evening until about a couple of hours ago.
My theory is that in the Uk we can do one very dry season fine, but two or more abutting causes problems.
Trouble is, spring and summer are dry seasons more often than not here to the East of the Pennines so we need a good wet autumn and winter. My geologist friend over in Macclesfield told me that it's rain shadow. He gets plenty of the wet stuff.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Leaving for work this morning it was tipping down again, the garden had large puddles on it as well as the school playing fields and water was running down the road almost like a stream!
It is still coming down, apparently it has been raining almost all day, it would look like the water table is back to normal, and we have more to come, tomorrow and Friday.
