@Lyn, the other forum that we both do has a like button, it works well there, but this is a much bigger forum. I don't remember that everyone agreed, I wouldn't have done, I was having Internet problems then so I may have missed it being discussed.

I am starting to feel a bit victimised for bringing this up. Someone said I was a "saddoe" on another thread. It was only a suggestion because a couple of people said they would like one. Even Dove who I've met and I like has been quite strong about it and I thought, Lyn, that we were friends on the small forum. Punkdoc hasn't been very kind either, apparently I have no sense of humour, but then that was another thread too. I'd always respected his views before.

Thank you to those who have supported me in this suggestion and been kind about it.

We are friends Lizzie, of course we are, but our site is made up of about 12 close friends, we all know each other well enough not to get upset about anything and I still look in a few times a day to monitor that no one is feeling left out or upset about anything. Only once or twice have I deleted a part of someone’s post in case it upset someone else.
You know the effects of the like button on some social media, if someone doesn’t get a like they take it as a personal insult, we just didn’t want that to happen on here.
I had no idea it would have escalated as it has, it’s obviously something people feel very strongly about.

Just out of interest do you see who has liked your like as you can on Twitter?

"Liked your like"? Good heavens, that seems a bit excessive!

Thank you for your reply @Lyn :)

Yes, I've seen that, I thought you meant another like for liking a like.

I was just looking at the 'like' system on another forum I use. On that forum you get alerts when someone likes your post and then next to your user name there is a tally of likes received. On this forum there are no alerts or any record of whether your posts have been 'liked' so unless you actively check back on everything you post then you have no idea if it has been liked or not. Whilst this is fine by me doesn't it defeat the object that the pro-likers are trying to achieve? You want to notify someone that you liked their pictures or comment but chances are they'll never realise you've done so.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Good point, wild edges. But I don't think I'd like a tally of likes next to my name.

Nor me. Too much of the popularity contest about it but the other forum were trying to revive a flagging membership and drum up some activity I think.
