  • Giving up on parsnips next year I've tried all sorts of varieties but they nearly always go woody, next year I shall grow another row of carrots they always do well.
  • I am the opposite, can't grow decent carrots but parsnips always work well.  I think it all depends on your soil & situation.

Just pulled the last parsnips and only 4 leeks left onthe whole plot.

All 8 beds are now covered in manure and resting until March. o:)

Im trying to ignore the grass on the dividing paths that needs removing.

My son gave me a sign that I have attached to my shed. It reads.....

To YOU this may only be a shed but to ME its a sanctuary.

    Aint that the truth  B)

Everyone is just trying to be Happy.....So lets help Them.
  • My sheds a sanctuary for tools, fleece, netting, watering cans, canes etc etc there's no way that I can get inside without hoiking the whole lot out first, touch wood it's never been broken into though.
  • Hello all lots of rain so plots are bit waterlogged - like your picture Allotment Boy, need lots of dry days to clear away
Around the chicken coop on my plot the ground is so muddy wet even on weed matting sheet
Not sure if I put it on here but going to have funding for the train station shed so hope to have the put up in a few months so that it brilliant
May have a new plot neighbour as padlock left from plot neighbour before is now on shed door not seen anyone yet

Made a quick trip to plots today. It is a bit drier at last, the wind has picked up & I think that is helping. At least the standing water has gone but the ground is still pretty soggy. Just picked up a stored butternut sqaush & added kitchen peelings to the compost heap, and gave it a bit of a stir. The ground still too sticky to do any more.

Hello all , hoping to go up Sunday to see what’s what
Hoping to go in Garden tomorrow to do some tidying up from November’s bit of flooding

I was hoping to get some digging done at last but reading Allotment Boys report it sounds as if the ground is going to be too wet to dig, I've had my plot for eight years this year and in that time we have had wet/dry/snowy/ periods but I can't remember the ground being this unworkable for such a long period of time, usually whatever the weather throws at us it sorts itself out in the end I hope that comes before planting time.

Got to allotment , it appears there was some flooding towards the bottom of the site and the ground is sodden , luckily I’m ok
Harvested leeks , parsnips , Jureslum artichokes & horse radish
Made a start at tidying up by cutting down jureslum artichokes & chrysanthemums ready for burning
Also dug up and split a Rhubard crown to past on to friends
Overall a good start to the year

managed to get some digging done today, the soil was only just workable but as there was a mild breeze blowing it will surely dry the soil out when it is opened up, hoping to go back tomorrow and possibly Wednesday which will be enough for one week as it was hard going getting back to working after the Christmas/New Year break.
