And if you are a beginner you don't necessarily realise that crop sowing and planting, especially leafy stuff, can be staggered for successional picking and eating.
I shall carry on watching because I ant to see how Rachel's walled garden comes along, I want to see more from Adam's garden and his very practical explanations, other gardens - I liked that jungle garden even tho I'd never want one or plant one here - so we can meet new plants, new combos, new ideas we can interpret.
I don't think a 5 minute section devoted to beginners growing veg cos of Covid would go amiss. They could make it 10 if they cut out the long slow shots of dogs and wheelbarrows!

I like Monty as a presenter, do not always like areas of his garden but enjoy seeing the segments filmed elsewhere. I would think Montys' wife Sarah would help hold the phone/ camera. I think this must have been Patti the yorkies debut as I've not seen her mentioned on anything else. I don't mind his Paradise Garden, though l wouldn't have chosen that grass either. He obviously likes it and uses it . I've seen an image of the seating area with lovely Persian inspired cushions and rugs. It's his garden after all, his passion and he like us, gardens to his style. Maybe he will be ready to step down as the main presenter soon. Adam would be a welcome replacement for many. I joined Instagram a short time ago. I follow Monty, Adam Frost etc. Adam did a live feed yesterday at 5.00PM. His wife was directing, his daughter was filming using her Dads phone. It was a question and answer session, answering questions put by his followers. It was really good fun for his first effort. He focused mainly on vegetables, raised beds. Some shaky camera work, and he had hilariously only began with 40% battery on his phone so after his phone died he had to rush indoors and continue from his front room. Everyone was asking where Ash the cat was, so his youngest son bought him out to see his fans. Apparently they can't film his dog for his sections on Gardeners World anymore because she's too quick and they can't get continuity for editing. Anyway, my point is that he will be doing another live broadcast this week, not sure exactly when yet but it's definitely worth a watch if you are a Frosty Fan.
I've not watched any of this years and, given the comments on this thread, I'm not missing much, except even more "long slow shots of dogs and wheelbarrows!"
That's interesting @lilysilly, about Adam on Instagram. Sounds like a great idea. Pardon my ignorance, but l take it you have be signed in to watch it live? I see people are asking if it can be uploaded to his Instagram page where we can all watch. Think l've got that bit right, as you can tell, l'm no social media expert !
Next neither @AnniD! Adam told his followers in a quick message on his feed when it was happening. He gave a few countdown warnings leading up to Friday. You had to be signed in to your account, and on Adam's profile, you then chose watch live feed. I've checked today and its not there to watch now because you have to watch it live, according to my daughter. I can't find it on YouTube either, yet.
Those calling for a rerun of Geoff Hamilton’s instructional programmes are perhaps forgetting one thing: he and those of that era were serving a pre-internet generation of gardeners. If you wanted advice then there were few sources - TV programmes with plenty of advice for beginners, Adam the Gardener cartoon strips, the Readers’ Digest Complete Book of Gardening or the library.
Almost all coming new to gardening today will be savvy when it comes to modern technology. Put ‘sewing lettuce seeds’ into Google and you get 1.3 million hits. Ask for a video and you have a choice of over 30,000, the first one being Monty from 2016 showing how to sow lettuces successionally to avoid a glut!
I’ll stick up for Monty. I think he has an engaging style and delivers with clarity. And I like the dogs.
I think those of us who watched pre-internet do get the changes it has made, we lived through them.
It is no excuse when the producers have decided to keep practical gardening as part of the show, for the presentations to then be lackluster with no content at all and bordering on misleading.
What was different about GH is that he obviously thought out what he was going to put across.
Monty (who I don't dislike) clearly doesn't feel the need to, or that he ought to give it much thought at all. I get far too much of a vibe from the presenters that they just feel they need to do it, rather than show any real enthusiasm or personal innovation.
Either make it worthwhile TV time, or drop the sections if it is all on the internet.
Hi there. Greetings from LA, California. My family and I (husband, daughters aged 13 and 16) have recently subscribed to Britbox and were thrilled to be able to watch Monty Don and his team in Gardeners world. Especially how recent the episodes are - we just watched Fridays episode. We had previously only been able to watch the Netflix servings of 'Big Dreams small spaces' and were inspired to spend our lockdown weekends building our own miniature Japanese Garden. We LOVE Gardeners world. We are growing our own vegetables and flowers and recently planted beautiful maple trees, azaleas and camillias for our new garden. I am horrified to hear all the moaners on this forum. I agree with Posy from Isle of Wight (another beautiful place, with The Needles, Alum bay, Osborne House...(sigh!), if you are that unhappy, stop watching! Turn off the telly. Do something else. Don't watch and write mean comments. Life's too short.
WE LOVE THE SHOW in its current form. We enjoy Monty's garden and all the other garden segments and the tips that Monty has been giving us - many seem relevant even with our Californian climate. We particularly like seeing the dogs and tonight's highlight was to see the little Yorkie! So adorable!! We are British and used to live in Wimbledon Village, London almost two decades ago. Very sad to read all these whining comments from viewers. Keep up the great work Monty!! From your devoted fans in LA.
You should know @drwaiyeeli, that the British love a good moan, we're world renowned for it 😁 Hope you are safe in LA. Does Britbox show Garden Rescue ?
Don’t the Australians say that when the plane from London lands at Melbourne and the engine is turned off, the whine continues. It’s the British passengers complaining.
