I love the new growth colour on that Westerland @micearguers, that's worth looking at even without any flowers. I've considered getting it previously or it's friend Autumn Sunset...maybe I should take another look🤔🙂
Thanks for pointing out Autumn Sunset @Victoria Sponge, that's a stunning rose too. Deep yellow and very healthy clearly, freely flowering, love it. I have 'Emily Gray' as a good yellow, but it has still not got into its stride. Perhaps I'm asking too much of it, as I planted in a somewhat shady dry spot. It has escaped from there now, growing over a shed, and I've redirected the shed drainpipe to its roots, hopefully it will come round.
My mum mentioned that rose 'Meg' (a climber) has similar open flowers as Westerland. I'm not sure how Meg's habit is; (I remember it being a bit all over the place, but I could very well be wrong). In this type of roses I love how the stamens add to the flower appeal.
The thorns on Westerland are quite something, they are like little fish hooks! I searched just now and on the helpmefind website people have similar observations: .. people got grabbed by the vicious hooked prickles.
We must have similar taste in roses @micearguers, I was also looking at Meg recently but wondered if it might be a little stiff growing for the space I have available. I thought it was an intriguing colour and also, I like to be able to see the centre at least at some age of the flower.
My Ferdinand Pichard produced a fairly normal fist flush, but now it only has one very small flower not much bigger than the top of my thumb instead of 2 to 3 inches across, it also looks like something has had a chew at it
The plant is in a woden planter 3'x18"x10" deep trained on a 4' trellis and in its 4th year, only gets about 4 hours full sun each day, late afternoon/evening.
I'm wondering if the planter is not big enough and/or not enough sun, plus signs of being eaten, the brown edged indentations in some petals.
Before moving to this ground floor flat just over 4 years ago I had a garden with over 40 roses, Ferdinand Pichard there thrived, I had it "pegged out" with branches almost horizontal, it flowered almost continuously, not in flushes
This was at about nose height right by the front door, beautiful scent when going in & out; there was as much again to the left - should have used a wide angle lens
Ooh @Voyagerxp that hot chocolate looks delicious! Here's a picture of my Mistakenly bought Prima Ballerina rose. Pleasingly it's very healthy and has a pleasantly full scent. It's also tolerating a much to small pot at present.
