Yes but it depends on the tree and the rose as to whether they're suited to each other.. semi shade or wind isn't a problem, and a rose with plenty of thorns helps, as they use these to cling and climb...plus tying to the trunk of course will be necessary.. whether you can dig a suitable hole near the trunk might be an issue... and I prefer to see them reach the lower limbs but without overwhelming the tree..
Let us know a bit more about the tree and the rose, and what look you're trying to create there...
The first of my roses, which I'm surprised to see out after the awful weather we had yesterday. The first is 'Zepherine Drouhin' and the second is 'Blue for You', although rather pink looking today. The second
I found this on the ground: wind, squirrels or pigeon ? Dublin Bay, I think -something Irish anyway. This has a strong scent even though it hasn't opened
Thanks, @Marlorena. It's a beautiful old tree, and we'll try our very hardest not to have it felled, but, at the end of the day, it's *just* a tree. Intellectually quite stimulating, though, finding out all about the legal ramifications etc... And looks like there's a fair bit of conflicting advice to negotiate, too... I too am looking forward to your blog. I'm assuming you're starting a stand-along blog, or is it going to be a thread on this forum?
@Janie B oh only a thread here Janie... I haven't figured out yet how to do a proper blog... I'm not sure I could make it interesting enough... domestic pressures don't give me a huge amount of time either unfortunately.. let's see how it goes.. Copper Beech is just so beautiful.. but I must admit I wouldn't want one near my garden... I can see one from the windows but it's 100 yards away.. just hope it doesn't prove too much of a headache for you...
@B3 that's a pity, another one gone... it's a nice red rose too..
